Role Overview

We are looking for an Esports Coordinator with experience in working in tournament operations to support our Esports Manager to help deliver our vision for esports at Player1, including our flagship event - Insomnia Gaming Festival.

Your main role will involve supporting the Esports Manager with the full operational delivery of any esports products required by the business and our clients, while providing feedback and reporting to help improve our esports products. You will run point on live tournament delivery ensuring that all the elements are set up for success - rules, staff, streams, schedules, game accounts, player comms, tournament platforms and more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support with proposals for esports based activities and tournaments.
  • Create (and amend existing) tournament rules and formats for various esports titles, researching current competitive ruleset trends ensuring all potential eventualities are covered and players have no misunderstandings when decisions are made.
  • Support with recruitment of esports casters, game observers and tournament administrators as required to ensure a high quality tournament experience for our players and stream viewers.
  • Contribute to and follow a project plan and ensure all tasks are completed on time and to a high standard.
  • Be an esports subject matter expert within the business and ensure we are always on the cutting edge of esport trends when it comes to game titles, formats, rules and community sentiments.
  • Deliver live tournaments both online and at events, ensuring successful delivery via close supervision and attention to detail.
  • Be a key public facing role for Player1 Events, communicating directly with players and handling customer interactions.
  • Be aware of GDPR and control of some personal data for the goals of helping to manage tournament participants and prize distribution.
  • Support with set up of gaming hardware including consoles and PCs and some basic technical abilities to troubleshoot minor issues with hardware
  • This list is not exhaustive and there may be other activities you are required to deliver
  • You will often be asked to work evenings and long weekends, especially in the lead up to and during big events, good personal time management will be a huge aspect of your work.

Skills & Experience Required

  • At least 2 years experience hands on running esports tournaments
  • Strong understanding of tournament brackets, from round robin and Swiss to single and double elimination
  • Sound working knowledge of at least one current popular esports title in detail, from grass roots through to pro tournaments
  • A self-starter that takes responsibility for their own workload and targets
  • Technically sound - can troubleshoot basic software problems with games across platforms
  • Proficient with Google Suite - Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides primarily.
  • Experience using some of the various online tournament management platforms - such as Battlefy, Challonge or similar
  • Experience using Discord as a communications tool

  • Solid people skills - ability to build and maintain connections with both internal team members and external contractors and volunteers to enable smooth teamwork
  • A good customer service communicator - talking to players, partners and customers clearly and politely comes naturally - dealing calmly with players that can sometimes have a negative response to losing in a tournament will be an essential part of this role
  • A positive, “challenge solving” attitude will be required
  • An investigative mind - being able to fact check, ask questions and do research to confirm the correct decisions for big tournament ruling decisions and back yourself up with evidence
  • Ability to see projects through from start to finish, managing workload effectively and meeting deadlines
  • A passion for gaming and esports will be required for this role
  • Willingness to travel internationally, and work on multi-day events

We’re all currently working from home with regular in-person meetings and colleague hangouts; whilst we perfect our hybrid model. Once we’re settled, we expect to have a base between Junction 4 and 14 of the M3 corridor, with a hybrid model of office and home working days.
