Paradox Interactive, leading global publisher and developer of games for PC, have been building Grand Strategy Games for more than 15 years. Our tech, game engine & tools have been an essential force multiplier in constantly lifting our games to the next level, culminating in the recent release of Crusader Kings III. We are now looking for someone to take up the challenge of, together with our talented team, taking our games to the next level.

About The Role

The Director of Grand Strategy (GSG) Tech is overall responsible for the production lifecycle and the continuous integration of our in-house game engine, named Clausewitz, as well as tools and other tech that is used to deliver our genre leading Grand Strategy Games. The successful candidate will play an important role in taking our games to the next level by working closely with project teams and driving changes to keep up with trends from the industry as a whole, by supporting all our Studios in the GSG segment.

The Director of Grand Strategy Tech is accountable for the technical delivery and stability of the Clausewitz game engine, and associated Tools and Build/Automation systems. They are also responsible for the overall direction and deliveries of the team, as well as budgeting resources, policies, business operations, staffing/recruitment and motivation of the same.

Responsibilities

As Director of Grand Strategy Tech you will be responsible for;

  • Developing and delivering the overall strategy for GSG Tech - Working closely with the studios to support the team’s vision of “building better games more efficiently.”
  • Leading, developing and coaching the GSG Tech Team and acting as the direct manager for the tech leads and managers within the team.
  • Ensuring our in-house tech remains competitive by continuously evaluating trends, technology, and tools within the industry for inclusion in our upcoming projects.
  • Identify and assess risks with GSG Tech products and services and propose mitigation strategies around those risks.
  • Building and maintaining a roadmap for GSG Tech and ensuring that the team is able to deliver on agreed timelines and provide ongoing support in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring a high level of quality, stability, and reliability from our in-house engine, tools and services.
  • General management of the GSG Tech Team, including overall responsibility for recruitment, on-boarding, personnel and forecasting duties.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with, and promote collaboration with, both the game teams and other technology teams within Paradox.
  • Facilitate and encourage the sharing of technology within the game studios and act as a positive and approachable role model as a technical leader.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in building shared tech for complex software projects, such as game engines
  • 5+ years proven management ability in the technical field
  • Documented experience as product owner for technical system
  • Experience in developing systems with complex hardware dependencies
  • Experience of running a business responsibility & collaborating with key stakeholders
  • High proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Experience in either C++ programming or managing C++ programmers
  • Degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience
