Director, Events and Fan Experience for a newly formed holding company that will own the sports and entertainment assets of Washington, DC based entrepreneur Mark Ein including the Citi Open Tennis Tournament, a combined WTA International and ATP 500 professional tennis tournament, the Washington Kastles of World Team Tennis (WTT), the winningest team in WTT history, the Washington Justice, the newly-launched esports team representing Washington, DC, in the Overwatch League, and the Washington City Paper. The mission of our organization is to unite and inspire our region, bring together great communities of sports fans in the Washington area and around the globe, and build an iconic portfolio of sports and entertainment brands.

This position will be responsible for creating, planning, and executing on all promotional events for our teams to build our fan base and to ensure that fans have a world-class experience at each sporting and entertainment event they attend. Reports to VP of Marketing.

Desired Experience

5+ years’ experience running events and driving fan experience. Must be highly organized and detail oriented with strong project management skills. Must have deep network of local events professionals to deliver on whatever is needed for a given event. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. Familiarity with sports and/or esports business needed. Experience with experiential marketing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The key responsibilities across all three sports properties include:
  • Develop overall plan for how events will drive business and fan engagement goals of each sports property.
  • Develop overall events calendar for each team in support of broader business objectives.
  • Provide creative leadership to ensure each event has exceptionally-high quality throughout design and décor, check-in experience, operations, concessions, etc.
  • Design, plan, and execute on events to build fan base and drive sponsor activations, such as watch parties, player meet and greets / Q&As, open tournaments and publicity events.
  • Design, plan, and execute on promotional activities and sponsorship activations to enhance fan experience across our sporting events (e.g., fan village for Citi Open).
  • Design and launch programs to build and engage local fan base for each sport, such as local college and high school events, youth events, and brand ambassador programs.
  • Be accountable for overall events and fan experience budgets, including managing internal and external contracted resources to execute on events.

Position is full-time, year-round. Significant weekend and evening hours will also be required, including attendance at some/all Citi Open, Washington Kastles, Washington Justice and Washington City Paper games/matches/events. Compensation is dependent on experience and will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. A standard benefits package and paid vacation time will be part of the compensation.
