We are on an ambitious mission to turn the world into an Augmented Reality canvas which games and other applications can paint on top of. This future is fully realized on AR Head Mounted Displays (HMDs).

Niantic’s Engineering Team is seeking a Build and Release Engineer to create and maintain the build pipeline for a custom Android Open Source Project (AOSP) based Operating System for the AR HMD. You will work to build workflow pipelines, consistent and reliable release processes, as well as tooling that empower engineers to deliver planet-scale AR experiences across Niantic and work to extend Niantic’s recently announced Lightship client platform to the next generation of AR and wearable devices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement CI/CD Pipelines to support development of AOSP and Linux based projects.
  • Continuously update existing repositories with security patches and software updates.
  • Support engineers by helping solve failed builds.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, QA, and other departments to ensure code and technology meets internal standards.
  • Develop tools to automate processes, participate in code reviews and conduct troubleshooting to ensure uptime for live systems.
  • Investigate and implement build improvements.

Qualifications

  • A BSc in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other equivalent technical degree or proven experience.
  • Experience with Linux and Android builds.
  • Experience troubleshooting and improving performance of build pipelines.
  • Experience setting up continuous integration pipelines and building systems.
  • Experience building and managing multiple Git repositories using Repo.

Plus if...

  • You have shipped projects built on Android or an embedded Linux Kernel.
  • You have experience iteratively delivering software via Agile methodologies.
  • You have worked with hardware teams.
