Our artists believe in the power of VR to immerse and entertain players like no other medium can. We are seeking a Principal Technical Artist to collaborate with and support the team, ensuring their content looks great in-game whilst adhering to the technical constraints of projects and hardware. Whether you are a games industry veteran or an experienced VFX Technical Artist/Director who'd like to make a change, we'd love to hear from you.

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Maintain a holistic view of Technical Art across the studio.
  • Lead & mentor a Technical Art team.
  • Create and maintain a technical art vision for the studio.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, & Art teams to make critical art pipeline and process decisions.
  • Direct efforts of the Technical Art staff to identify and develop necessary art tool chains and documentation.
  • Maintain clear lines of communication with each project's art, design, and engineering teams.
  • Communicate and reinforce the technical constraints of the product to the team.
  • Work with Production to ensure that timeframes and technical constraints are effectively determined or estimated to meet the project's requirements.
  • Help plan technical art efforts to deliver our creative vision, efficiency goals, and technical requirements.
  • Provide mentorship to the technical art staff and facilitate training efforts to develop the technical art discipline within the studio.
  • Create and maintain documentation standards and practices for tools, pipelines, and technical specifications.

Requirements

  • An enthusiastic individual who believes in Virtual Reality as a medium to entertain and engage people.
  • Professional experience working in the games or VFX industries as a technical artist or content creator.
  • Knowledge of modern content creation pipelines, especially in context of content performance profiling and optimization.
  • An effective communicator, who make sure that technical topics are understood by all disciplines in a clear and concise manner.
  • A practical and balanced style with a calm approach to resolving issues.
  • An active listener who is empathetic to diverse perspectives.
  • Familiarity with game engines like Unreal 4, Unity, and Lumberyard or a proprietary equivalent e.g., Anvil or Frostbite.
  • Practical knowledge of Python.
  • Understanding of node-based material/shader authoring.
  • Understanding of production processes and tools (such as SCRUM, agile, JIRA, Confluence, or similar).
  • A variety of skills and experience in technical content creation - for example these might include 3D modelling, LOD generation, rigging, material/shader authoring, VFX creation, lighting, vertex animation, destruction and physics, etc.

We are looking to fill permanent and fixed term contracts, remote working for an initial period then transitioning onsite to our modern studio based in Farnborough, UK, within easy commuting distance from London and Guildford. Salary is competitive and dependent on your experience.
