As part of the Ecosystem Experiences & Services team at Mojang, this role will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and partner closely with studio leadership to drive product innovation to deliver the best experience to our players and fans.  

We are looking for an experienced Senior Director, Minecraft Ecosystem Experiences and Services- Mojang Studios,  who would drive new capabilities to build efficient, scalable, performant, resilient products and services. With a technical background combined with product experience focus, you will provide leadership for multi-disciplinary teams that focuses across the franchise. Each part of your team will possess a deep understanding and experience of the technology and services they provide. Your role will be a leader that can bring the best out of these teams and lead them with clarity and confidence.

Preferably you have worked in multi-disciplined teams to build and release a wide variety of services, features and games with both client and backend/live service considerations as well as their implications to business, production and design.

This position will require you to bring a balanced set of scalability and data driven framework to make informed decisions with an end user focus, partner engagement/collaboration and execution commitment. You will be work with product teams across the studio, have executive exposure, and be given great opportunities for growth and impact.

Guide – Define the business goals and product vision with your teams and create and execute a roadmap to meet those goals. Through aligned priorities you will build a vision for evolving your teams along with the franchise goals, priorities and vision.  You will be adept at making pragmatic decisions and tradeoffs that enable teams to make fast progress to achieve objectives while keeping in mind the franchise future strategy and commitment to quality.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience working on developer platforms with a solid understanding of the game development lifecycle and passion for creating best in class player experiences.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

· Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND

10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages

including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,

or Python

o OR equivalent experience.

· 6+ years people management experience.

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation. Responsibilities

You will leverage your technical product management experiences to lead the teams that help drive Mojang Studios investments in areas of shared functions focused on delivering good player and community experiences, performance, security and resilient, scalable services across our product pillars. 

Delivering Excellence:

  • Apply deep understanding of customer needs, product analytics, and industry innovation to drive the product vision and strategy for Developer Platform, maximizing business and customer impact.

  • Lead, mentor, inspire, and grow a high-performance team of technical product managers and engineers developing strategies, roadmaps, and specifications that prioritize the most impactful opportunities.

  • Collaborate with management to align vision, strategy, performance metrics, and roadmaps.

  • Exhibit robust problem-solving and decision-making skills, tackling both technical and strategic challenges in innovative ways, and leveraging both data and intuition to make strategic choices in the face of ambiguity and complexity.

  • Provide critical analysis of technology and development practices with the goal of improving game quality and team efficiency and encouraging a positive working environment.

Organizational & Delivery Leadership:

  • Develops strategy across the organization ensuring alignment and accountability to Studio priorities and the teams you collaborate with. 

  • Drive deliverables across diverse work environments leveraged across our Product areas including Safety, Security, Support, Quality, Release Management, Web, Launcher, Service Engineering just to name a few. 

  • Work closely across the combination of business and engineering leaders within the Studio to develop unified plans for a cohesive delivery strategy.  

  • Develop critical relationships across Business Leadership and Product Development to genuinely understand challenges from their perspectives and turn those into requirements across the breadth of engineering solutions.  

  • Shares industry expertise and strategic insight in collaboration with other teams, conducts analyses, and examines player and technology-related industry trends, first class experience and industry-specific requirements.   

  • Acts as a leader in the studio to ensure cross-divisional teams develop problem statements and form hypotheses of feature(s)/feature areas (e.g., product, service) to address crucial business, program, customer needs, and/or market opportunities.  

  • Envisions, architect, deliver and support high-quality experience services across the gaming service platform, hardware, and development.  

  • Create detailed road maps to coordinate the efforts of engineering and business teams.  

  • Effectively collaborate across large organizations and multi-disciplinary teams

  • Security of our product, our players, is always top of mind, you will develop a clear strategy and approach with your team on behalf of the franchise.

People Management 

  • Mentor engineering leads and product managers to support day-to-day tasks, achieve long term career, and team objectives
