MachineGames is seeking a new level archtect to join our team and help create stunning visuals for our upcoming AAA titles!

In this role you will be the bridge between the environment artists and the level designers. You will merge the two components together and support them with making sure that the visual goals for our worlds are achivable and will be looking the absolute best they possibly can. You will be working closely with our Lead Artists and Art Director to help our creative vision come to life and you will collaborate in cross-functional teams on a daily basis.

This is a permanent position starting as soon as possible. We will support your relocation and/or application for work permit if you have a non-EU passport and/or not currently residing in Sweden.

Responsibilities

  • Iterate on level design blockouts, preparing them for further art development by the Environment art team.
  • Refine these level design blockouts into interesting & coherent spaces, prioritizing context, composition, layout and visual hierarchy based on each locations artistic and thematic requirements
  • Respect level design intentions, gameplay metrics and technical requirements
  • Create and maintain 3D resources and content that will support level design and improve their blockout pipeline, such as:
    • Modular level design kits
    • Proxy gameplay and set dressing props
    • Other custom geo or kits requested by the level design team
  • Work alongside the level design team and provide them with:
    • Feedback related to the art intentions of the space
    • Creative solutions to technical and compositional problems
  • Act as the intermediary between the Environment Art and Level Design teams
    • Be a representative for environment art priorities whilst simultaneously respecting level design requirements
    • Maintain this throughout the whole level development process, acting as the hinge between these two departments
  • Work alongside the technical art team to monitor & help maintain technical requirements within each map

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge and experience with creating and maintaining game levels, with a strong focus on Layout, composition, visual hierarchy, and performance considerations.
  • Knowledgeable in level design fundamentals
  • Strong 3d modeling and texturing skills in at least one major modelling package.
  • Solid understanding of other industry standard art tools such as Photoshop, Substance Painter, Substance Designer and Zbrush.
  • You understand and operate within given technical constraints.
  • 5+ years of game industry experience with at least two AAA games shipped.
  • Fluent in English - Written and Verbal
