Insomniac Games is looking for an Advanced Senior Technical Artist to join our team!
Do you have experience in game development and a particular interest in art pipeline tools? Insomniac Games is looking for a Technical Artist to join its Core Technology department and focus on the development of its AAA game engine and tools suite with one of our technical art teams. A background in technical animation can be useful for this role. This individual is responsible for combining programming and content production skills to design, develop, and maintain studio-wide software systems and tools for content creators. Works within and around commercial content creation software, with a heavy focus on real-time performance and efficient production. Educates production teams on how to best use internal tools and pipelines. Provides features, systems and tools which empower content creators in art, animation, design, audio and technology to make best-in-class contributions to games.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the Following:
Designs and implements large-scale software systems and tools that provide studio-wide benefit to content creators in art, animation, design, audio and technology.
Maintains and updates existing software systems and tools for increased functionality and performance
Debugs and fixes issues in software systems and tools
Supports content creators in their use of commercial and proprietary software systems and tools
Works independently to complete assigned projects with minimal supervision.
Provides technical leadership within areas of concentration (eg photogrammetry/photometrics, procedural generation, shader and material design, technical animation, animation dynamics and simulation).
Develops sample content to prove out new workflows and exercise new tools
Analyzes content performance development and shipping hardware
Sets technical targets for production content pipelines
Works with production teams to analyze and address development challenges
Educates production teams on technology and engine functionality, including creating and maintaining usage documentation, and presenting new features.
Continuously expands knowledge of technological developments in the game industry
Maintains responsibility for a large area of the technical art codebase
Advises and mentor artists and technical artists across the studio
Assists other Technical Artists with all technical questions
Other duties may be assigned
Experience and Education: 8+ years of professional experience or training, or an equivalent amount of education and experience.
Qualifications:
Strong verbal and written communication
Strong knowledge of Maya as it pertains to engine content creation:
Animation, modeling, fx, and rigging features
Extensibility via Python, PyMEL, PyQt/PySide, and the Maya API
Knowledge of the content-creation landscape and modern content-creation tools, like Houdini
Knowledge of the game engine landscape and modern engine feature sets
Experience with technical animation, programming, or a related field
Experience with C++ is a bonus
