About The Job

Design and user experience (UX) are at the forefront of everything we do. The job of an Interaction Designer is to envision how people experience our products and bring that vision to life in a way that feels inspired, refined and even magical. In an Interaction Designer role, you’ll take on complex tasks and transform them into intuitive, accessible and easy-to-use designs for billions of people around the world—from the first-time user to the sophisticated expert. Achieving this goal requires collaboration with teams of Designers, Researchers, Engineers and Product Managers throughout the design process—from creating user flows and wireframes to building user interface mockups and prototypes. At each stage, you will anticipate what our users need, advocate for them and ensure that the final product surprises and delights them.

Our mission is universal literacy.

With a number of unique factors and Google’s strong speech technology across 110+ languages, we believe we can significantly improve literacy through a speech-based reading tutor app for children. We have the reach and technology to make a difference to global learning outcomes.

This is an innovative and unique product with scope for widespread social impact alongside interesting UX challenges, building a product for children in families with low digital literacy. Our aim is to design a product so engaging kids borrow their parent's devices to learn to read, rather than just watch or game.

This is a senior IC design role (non-management) with end-to-end design opportunity, from product strategy, to concept design, through design specs and launch.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design strategy and features for innovative educational product becoming popular in India and with plans to meaningfully improve worldwide literacy.
  • Work with teachers and students, visit schools and communities, meet parents and children, and design for both in-home and institutional learning.
  • Identify new ways for Read Along to drive high-quality educational outcomes, work directly with cross-functional leads to develop strategy.
  • Work closely with dedicated Read Along user researchers.
  • Engage in design critiques and user research, and work with cross-functional peers (Product Management, Engineering) to identify great design solutions.
