Core hours:

Mon to Fri 9.30am-6pm, but must be flexible to cover times of global markets

Compensation:

£35,000-40,000 per annum plus Bonus up 10%

Based:

London, Manchester or Remote

Business travel:

Some travelling will be required, attending conferences and supporting ESI Events in different regions (Europe, NA & Asia)

It runs industry news platform Esportsinsider.com, B2B focused digital and print publication The Esports Journal, ESI Events, and ESI Connect, an agency service that is focused on brokerage, consultancy and campaign activation.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

With the Managing Director of ESI, and the wider Commercial, Content, Marketing & Design Teams, the Head of ESI Media will lead on the operation, output, delivery, and growth of Esports Insider’s Media arm.

  • Commercial Management & Optimisation - Oversight and management of the ESI Media arm’s commercial growth. In practice this means ensuring that ESI Media is commercially robust, overseeing the delivery of our current service offerings, as well as the introduction of new services, driving the retention and growth of our client base.
  • Oversight of ESI Media content - Ensuring quality delivery of our output across all forms of original ESI multimedia content, with a prioritised focus on Media Client deliverables.
  • Audience Growth - Ensuring that we are well positioned to grow website traffic and social media channel followers & engagement, which includes ensuring a flow of consistent, high quality and insightful multimedia content, supported by a strong visual presentation across graphics & video.
  • Process Optimisation - Working to optimise scheduling, communications (team wide, including freelance support, and with Clients), implementation of new tools, and allocation of resources.
  • Team Management - Direct management of content team members, with a particular focus on ensuring quality and timeliness across Media Client deliverables.
  • Strategic Planning for further development of ESI Media.

The role reports into the Managing Director of ESI directly.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversight of ESI Media output, including working with the site editors to manage the content schedule, team, partner and resource management, and ensuring we’ve everything required in place from excellent features through to graphics, client approvals and more
  • Commercial Management & Optimisation, including working directly and closely with the Commercial, Media & Marketing teams to ensure we are well positioned to meet deliverables and surpass expectations of Clients, and that Client communications are consistent, regular and well maintained.
    • Direct oversight of all ESI Media properties, including news sections of website, newsletters, podcasts, the ESI Directory, and the ESI Marketplace
    • The Head of Media will also be responsible for regular reporting of the Media arm’s performance and growth across the following metrics to the Managing Director; revenue by property/product, Site Traffic [Users & Views], Media Client Deliverables [incl. Views], advertising performance (revenue, impressions, cpm) and Media Client net promoter score (NPS), Podcast Listenership, Social Media Channel Follower Growth & Engagement Numbers
  • Identify new business opportunities for the company, and contribute ideas to strengthen the ESI brand and grow our offering of services
  • Strengthen the ESI brand and output by contributing to the formation of new and creative ideas across Media products, The Esports Journal and other properties
  • When required, generally only in the event that other team members are unavailable due to holiday or illness, assist with the site’s editorial day to day output across editorial
  • Key Performance Objectives
    • Media business profitability and growth - media revenue, and media financial contribution measured as media revenue less direct costs (any costs of sale, media staff cost including freelance, and other costs incurred specifically for the media business)
    • Audience growth - growing users and views for each media channel, social channel
    • Client satisfaction - client renewal rate and net promoter score

ABOUT YOU

You must have:

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Excellent team management skills
  • An adeptness at commercialisation of Media products, including an interest in the strategic growth of such verticals
  • Excellent technical/computer skills and ability to learn and work with various software
  • Great copywriting and proofreading skills, with creativity and attention to detail
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and meet targets and deadlines
  • Ability to work closely with colleagues and team members
  • Ability to work efficiently in a structured way, prioritising a wide range of tasks, with knowledge of project management platforms including Monday and Jira

It would be nice if you had:

  • Knowledge of the esports landscape with an understanding of the core and associated markets
  • Experience with basic CMS systems (WordPress)
  • Knowledge of, a love for, and an understanding of the esports ecosystem
  • Excellent knowledge of, and provable experience with, programs including Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Sketch and similar
  • Experience with marketing execution across verticals (email, website, social media) would be an additional advantage
  • Knowledge of and experience with spreadsheet software (Excel, Google Sheets etc.)
  • Experience with Google Drive & Google Docs
  • Experience with mailing systems (Mailchimp)
