Responsibilities

  • You will supervise local and/or remote employees who are preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and ad-hoc analyses of transactional activity. This may include preparation and/or review of the following types of activity:
    • Journal entry preparation
    • Opening and closing of financial periods in Oracle
    • Month-end close reporting using Oracle, Hyperion, and Excel
    • Month-end reconciliations using Cadency
    • Monthly cost review meetings with FP&A and non-finance budget holders
    • Monthly revenue review procedures
    • VAT return submissions and other local compliance document filings
    • Reconciliation of US GAAP- and local-GAAP ledgers in Oracle
  • You will resolve Technical Accounting matters:
    • Preparation and/or review of statutory financial statements
    • Preparation and/or review of transfer pricing adjustments
    • Preparation and/or review of corporate tax provisions
    • Cash flow planning and management, in conjunction with corporate Treasury teams
    • Oversight of local GAAP adjustments in a secondary ledger and/or US-to-local GAAP bridge
    • Evaluating emerging technical accounting issues, documenting local statutory and US GAAP accounting positions and providing training to non-management accounting staff
    • Reviewing and resolving issues of an accounting, policy and regulatory nature that arise on an ad-hoc basis and providing timely guidance to finance and non-finance partners
    • Reviewing accounting assessments and leading discussions regarding the local implementation of corporate accounting policy
  • You will maintain financial systems and processes, including:
    • Leading design and documentation of complex end-to-end processes related to accounting, as well as internal and external financial reporting
    • Design and implementation of continuous improvements or standardization for a wide range of processes and systems
    • Monitor and assess risks to accounting systems and processes impacting the accuracy or timeliness of financial reporting
    • Oversight of the monthly financial close process, maintenance and control of procedure documents and close schedules
  • You will be responsible for Risk and Control management, including:
    • Annual risk assessment, including recommendations to mitigate risk related to financial controls and reporting
    • Participation in SOX or local equivalent review of controls over financial reporting
    • Review financial reporting dependencies in a rapidly changing environment, and design and implementation of controls to mitigate risk of inaccurate financial reporting
    • Develop effective governance, including in remote-managed locations
  • You will provide business support, including:
    • Supervision of local and US external auditors, as well as support for other statutory and tax audit matters
    • Interpretation of accounting technical matters to non-technical and/or non-finance business partners
    • Assist business teams (e.g. R&D, Quality Assurance, Facilities, etc.) to ensure accurate and complete expenditure postings
    • Delegation and review of support work carried out by offshore accounting teams
    • Preparing and presenting local entity financial statements at semi-annual balance sheet review meetings
    • Contingency planning (e.g. holiday, sickness cover) for local accounting hub as well as providing emergency support for equivalent accounting hubs in Lyon and Geneva
    • Review and approve commercial contracts, from an accounting perspective, and act as legal representative
    • Participation, as needed, in local Governance Group matters
  • You will manage people, including:
    • Build a high-performing team that is connected and aligned, and achieves business results in an inclusive team culture
    • Ensure team members have clear goals and understand how their work impacts the organization
    • Conduct quarterly conversations and regular check-ins to ensure progress against goals, provide feedback and coaching, and support career development and learning

Qualifications

  • One or more of the following backgrounds: Fully qualified or finalist ACA/ACCA/CIMA-qualified, prior equivalent GL work experience with a multinational company, prior public accounting experience
  • Fluency in English needed; working knowledge of other European languages a plus
  • Familiarity with local GAAP required, knowledge of IFRS or US GAAP a plus
  • Familiarity with other local GAAP (e.g. UK GAAP, German GAAP, Swedish GAAP) a plus
  • Proven experience with month-end US (SEC or multinational equivalent) corporate reporting deadlines and/or preparation of local statutory financial statements
  • Proven experience identifying and communicating general accounting issues to non-technical and/or non-finance business partners
  • Proven experience identifying and evaluating emerging technical accounting issues, and training others as necessary
  • Proven experience with corporate governance and/or internal controls compliance
  • Experience with Oracle, SAP, or equivalent financial accounting systems
  • Experience with Hyperion Financial Management or equivalent consolidation systems
  • Experience with Cadency or equivalent reconciliation tools
  • Experience with Onesource or other tax reporting tools a plus
  • Experience with corporate taxation issues, multinational transfer pricing and VAT desirable
  • Experience working with remote or offshore teams on multiple time zones required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel (can perform complex functions such as using Pivot Tables) required
