As an Engineer in Detection Infrastructure, your focus is on making our Discord’s users safer by creating scalable proactive systems to limit bad actors across the platform. Keeping users safe is an essential contributor to growth at Discord which is why the output of the team is so important.
What you'll be doing
Coordinating our detection systems, forming clean abstractions and communication protocols.
Extending our in-house, real-time abuse detection platform written in Python and Rust
Building out the signals, datasets, and databases to support our informational needs
Expanding and deploying internal APIs to combat abusive content
Maintain and scale out our infrastructure on Kubernetes
Move quickly to respond to the moving target of abuse on Discord
What you should have
4+ years experience building scalable backend or real-time data systems
Experience working on, and deploying, large-scale systems in Python, Rust, Go, or other similar language.
You excel in undefined environments, get excited about creating solutions to complex problems, and building on them.
You can work with others to create pragmatic solutions — and then evolve and generalize them.
Experience debugging live production systems
Experience with real-time streaming data systems like Kafka or Pub-sub
Experience with deploying services on Kubernetes
Experience in touching the whole cloud infrastructure stack - from disks to networking to permissions.
Experience with data warehouses like Druid, BigQuery, and Redshift
Experience with grpc, protobufs, or other communication protocols.
Experience with terraform or other code-defined infrastructure.
Prior experience working in the Safety domain

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $190,000 to $204,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
