DigiPen Academy' K-12 department is seeking an experienced, reliable, and engaging K-12 Computer Science Instructor to join our instructional team. In this position, you will teach video game development programming and production to our high school-aged students at Pierce County Skill Center near Puyallup, WA. The instructor will act as a DigiPen liaison at the skill center and teach the Computer Science curriculum uniquely designed by DigiPen. There are also curriculum development and reporting elements in this position. You will be expected to provide educationally engaging instruction that is tailored to meet each student where they are academically, and others duties as assigned.

Pierce County Skill Center (PCSC) is a regional skills center cooperative of select school districts in Pierce County, WA. PCSC provides advanced-level career and technical education programs based on rigorous academic and industry standards that prepare students for post-secondary education and successful entry into high-skill, high-demand careers and employment.

The program is an advanced program in “creating makers of technology”. Students are taught how to create video games using trigonometry and higher math, computer programming in C/C++, as well as 2D and 3D computer animation. The course prepares students for skills necessary for video game industry’s biggest need: qualified video game programmers and artists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching high school juniors and seniors the fundamentals required to enter a technology degree program at the collegiate level.
  • Recruiting students for local school DigiPen programs.
  • Communicating with parents and school administrators about student progress in DigiPen’s Technology Academy program.
  • Maintaining all documentations needed for attendance, grading, and state approval.
  • Helping DigiPen innovate and expand current curriculum.
  • Representing DigiPen at local school district events.
  • Continuing to grow and develop as a teacher.

Qualifications:

Required Skills/Attributes:

  • Intermediate C/C++ programming knowledge
  • 2+ yrs technical industry experience
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in a simplified manner
  • A highly motivated, dynamic personality driven by a passion for learning and education
  • A service oriented attitude
  • Ability to look at outside-the-box solutions to problems
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Skills/Attributes:

  • Teaching and/or training experience
  • Possess an active Washington State Teaching Certificate or Career Tech Certificate
  • 3+ years of proven software/gaming development
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field or industry experience
  • Solid understanding and experience in the project based software development life cycle
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
