Demiurge is looking for a Senior Concept Artist/Illustrator to join our growing art team. You have an outstanding talent for creating stunning sketches and illustrations that inspire teams and drive artistic development on top-rated games. Your visuals feed the design and art creation process, from pre-production exploration to final product delivery. You are a designer, capable of generating quick ideas through rough concept sketches as well as highly polished and detailed digital paintings. You can adapt to different art styles with ease, and provide visuals for everything from characters, creatures, environments and props to UI elements and graphic design. You thrive in a highly collaborative and dynamic team environment, working closely with other senior artists, designers and engineers to create highly immersive game-playing experiences.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create character, creature and environment concepts that inspire the team, support game design and player-facing content.
  • Craft stunning illustrations that capture the player’s attention, stir their imagination and transport them to new worlds.
  • Generate rough sketches, thumbnails, color studies, mood paintings and lighting keys to inform and stimulate other disciplines.
  • Work closely with UI/UX team to create highly-polished, stylized, UI elements including panels, frames, backgrounds and menu screens.
  • Work within predetermined art styles and collaborate with other artists and directors to establish new style directions.
  • Collaborate with other project disciplines and external partners in planning, organizing, prioritizing concept art requirements, and determining how to achieve optimal results.
  • Provide direction and feedback to external vendors.
  • Adapt to changes within a dynamic, agile environment.
  • Share your experience and knowledge to provide feedback, direction and mentoring to other artists.
  • Assist with interviews and the growth of our art team.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years working as a concept artist or illustrator for games.
  • Exceptional foundation art skills with a solid understanding of the fundamentals – composition, perspective, proportion, value, anatomy and color theory – and how they relate to game development.
  • An outstanding grasp of color, lighting and detail, and the ability to utilize them in illustrations, concept art and textures.
  • Expertise in illustrating characters, props, vehicles and environments in a variety of settings.
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Suite.
  • A strong understanding of 2D art pipelines and content creation for games.
  • Portfolio or demo reel that demonstrates breadth of skill, styles, genres, subject matter, creativity and craftsmanship.
  • A positive attitude and an ability to receive as well as provide objective and constructive feedback.
  • Able to function under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent personal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Preference to Applicants With:

  • Experience using Unity and/or Unreal.
  • Experience with 3D software such as Maya, 3ds Max or Blender.
  • Experience creating 2D art for use within 3D pipelines.
  • BFA (or higher)
  • A love for games, and who play them regularly.
  • Outside interests!
