Crystal Northwest is looking for an experienced Level Designer to join our ranks! This Level Designer will be responsible for helping build out new levels for The Avengers Project. You will collaborate with some of the industry’s most respected creative veterans and have a great time!

Crystal Northwest is a wholly owned extension of Crystal Dynamics, a AAA game studio known for the development of iconic game franchises such as Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers. Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with all departments to plan and build co-operative multiplayer levels.
  • Strict adherence to scripting guidelines and object creation based on the rest of the projects structure. Collaborate with leads to maintain these best practices and update them as they grow and change.
  • Work to build spaces that are easy to understand and navigate for players.
  • Iterate on creations with all team members to funnel feedback and make positive and demonstrable change on screen.
  • Design and implement quests and level interactions.

Competencies, Skills & Knowledge

  • Clear, analytical thinker, with a proven ability to break down level design into easily buildable chunks and produce a larger working space that is both visually interesting and highly functional.
  • Understanding of current enemy and level constraints as well as an understanding of the game mechanics and player abilities to both challenge and entertain players.
  • Experience scoping and estimating various level design tasks as a self-promoter and self-organized force.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate level design ideas, changes, feedback and iteration as well as execute these changes on screen to a high degree of quality.
  • Understand, build and execute against enemy encounter scripting changes and plans as they relate to good story telling and immersive combat experiences.
  • Understand current industry trends as it relates to modern combat design and show examples of this in your levels for 3rd person action adventure games.
  • Excellent knowledge of current level design theory and principles of what it takes to make a blockbuster AAA level be memorable in the eyes of the player.

Essential Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional multiplayer level design design experience.
  • UDK or Kismet-related visual scripting experience.

Pluses

  • Understanding of Maya.
  • C#, Lua or Python related scripting experience.
