Cornell College is accepting applications for a full-time esports Head Coach. This position develops and manages all aspects of the esports program, including but not limited to: recruiting and retaining student participants; coordinating and conducting practices and competitions; developing game and life skills among students, and creating a highly visible program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Organize and implement a successful recruiting plan to yield an appropriate number and quality of student participants; conduct recruiting efforts including managing communication flow (printed, online and telephone), participating in Cornell Admissions events, and coordinating appointments on-campus and online with prospective student participants, parents, and high school esport administrators.
  • Work with individual team members to provide guidance and support toward optimal curricular and co-curricular success. Monitor academic progress.
  • Coordinate, communicate, and conduct practice, scrimmage, and competition schedules. Manage event registrations, facility reservations, equipment needs, travel logistics, pre- and post-trip paperwork, judges/officials, and marketing/promotion. Assign and oversee the accomplishment of team, staff, and volunteer responsibilities.
  • Develop game skills among esport program participants by providing fundamental and advanced instruction in selected gaming titles. Develop life skills by providing general counsel, guidance, and inspiration to students regarding their overall success, particularly including utilizing new student orientation activities, career programs, academic success programs, well-being programs, and living successfully in residence halls and behaving within the College's student conduct expectations. Promote good sportsmanship.
  • Create a highly visible program by: engaging team members in campus activities and community service; encouraging general student use of the esports arena (when not in use by eSports program); sponsoring esports clinics, events, competitions; and hosting esports summer camps for middle and high school students.
  • Oversee and utilize the esports budget. Manage the esports arena. Maintain equipment and uniforms. Plan for operational and equipment replacement needs.
  • Engage in developing relationships with potential sponsors and alumni to support a competitive esports program.
  • Participate on college committees as requested.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree. Broader knowledge of online multiplayer games and technologies. Conduct activities in accordance with institutional and selected external esport organizing bodies. Internet and database skills. A commitment to the values, standards, and expectations of a residential, liberal arts college. Must have valid driver's license and insurance coverage (if driving own vehicle) or be insurable.
