FX Technical Artist

Job Description:

The FX Technical artist will work closely with the FX artists, graphics developers, tool developers and QA to help build our FX engine, pipeline and artist workflow. The candidate will help ensure consistently performing FX across several gaming platforms while maintaining visually stunning results. This person would help write shaders, maintain and investigate FX performance, and collaborate with other teams to continuously improve the FX workflow. Additionally, the candidate may contribute to developing our Houdini pipeline.

The ideal candidate is a creative person who enjoys technical challenges. Someone who wants to deliver an amazing experience, a team player with strong communication skills that can work with all disciplines and leads. A self-driven individual who is passionate about FX workflow and development. A strong background in linear algebra, lighting and shaders will be key characteristics of the ideal candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain FX systems, pipelines and shaders.
  • Continuously refine and improve the workflow for FX artists.
  • Investigate and correct FX performance problems.
  • Troubleshoot problems encountered by the FX artists.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • 3+ years of professional experience.
  • Experience writing HLSL vertex, pixel and compute shaders.
  • Understanding of lighting, compositing and rendering techniques.
  • Professional experience using at least one scripting language like Python, Lua, Hscript, Vex, Mel, etc.
  • Experience using game engines such as Unreal, Unity, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of real-time particle simulations and photorealistic FX development.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Shipped or contributed to at least one video game, film or TV series.
  • Strong linear algebra skills.
  • Experience with a programming language like C, C++, C#, etc.
  • Experience using Autodesk Maya or equivalent tool such as Max, Modo, etc.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop or similar.

Houdini Experience:

  1. Creating workflows using Houdini.
  2. Procedural modeling.
  3. Creating HDAs.
