Coatsink is looking for a highly motivated and talented Narrative Designer. The position is open to experienced remote candidates. Applicants must be living in or willing to work within the East Coast to Eastern European time zones to work with our UK based team. You will work closely with our Game Design team. to join the team in Sunderland, UK.

As a Narrative Designer at Coatsink, you are the architect and champion of a game’s story content and structure. You will work closely with the art and design team to develop the relationship between gameplay, narrative and structure to provide a compelling, consistent and immersive experience.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the narrative content and presentation of Coatsink’s titles, acting as point-of-contact for creative decisions relating to story, character, arena, structure and tone.
  • Liaise with project management to determine the overall vision of each project, and work with the development team to execute upon it.
  • Create and disseminate story treatments, design documents and scripts as required.
  • Work with the concept and art teams to define locations and characters; work with the design team to ensure narrative consistency through mechanics; collaborate with the audio team to ensure harmonious execution. And write the odd pun.
  • Define lore and characters, establish the tone and voice of each game, and develop efficient and creative ways to present these to the player.
  • Liaise with production studios to determine cast, and direct voice-over sessions and motion capture sequences.
  • Champion the game at community and press events, and assist with the development of promotional material as required.

Required

  • Excellent creative writing and scriptwriting skills.
  • Proven ability to craft compelling stories and build worlds.
  • Experience creating and editing copy to a high standard.
  • Passion for playing video games across a wide variety of genres.
  • Passion for storytelling theory and structure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident IT skills.
  • Able to self-motivate and work collaboratively or alone.

Preferred

  • 3 years’ experience in a creative role.
  • Experience scriptwriting for film, TV or games.
  • Experience leading a team on a released title.
  • Relevant university degree.
  • Unity experience.
  • Basic art skills.
  • Experience working within project management methodology such as SCRUM.
