Job Description

The Molasses Flood is looking for a UI/UX Designer to help drive the vision and implementation of our new game’s user interface, and to act as the champion and primary defender of the player experience. This is a game design role, and you will be the design partner to the UI artist. As UI/UX Designer, you will be the team member closest to the player’s second-to-second experience, and will help us ensure that every one of those seconds is delightful and frustration-free. You will also own and drive the creation of our game’s tutorialization system, thus ensuring our game remains accessible even to new players.

This is a full-time salaried position at our office in the greater Boston area. Relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the vision for our game’s user interface: collaborate with the UI artist and the rest of the team to create a UI that is as intuitive as it is beautiful
  • Take lead on the tutorialization of the game, carefully designing the on-ramp experience for new players
  • Generate wireframes and other design documentation, then work with others to bring them to life
  • Get your hands dirty: implement your ideas in Blueprint with help and oversight from engineering
  • Keep up with the latest industry trends in usability, accessibility and interface design

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a US work permit or citizenship
  • The ability to communicate fluently with engineering, art, and production
  • Curiosity, kindness, and a positive and professional can-do attitude

Nice to Haves

  • Unreal Engine 4 experience
  • Any kind of scripting experience, be it visual (such as Blueprint) or text-based (such as Python, Lua, or C#)
  • Experience working on the UI/UX of a shipping commercial game
  • A background in UX design theory or HCI

Additional Information

  • Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, and 401k matching
  • Flexible schedule: office days are Tuesday and Thursday. Remaining days are “work where you want” days
  • Bonus plan
  • Many opportunities for advancement as our team grows and takes on new challenges and multiple projects
