Bungie is looking for a talented Lighting Artist who will help us create rich, imaginative and immersive worlds. The main function of this position is to ensure that the Art Director’s vision for lighting and atmosphere is realized. To achieve this, you will work with proprietary tools built for you to light worlds, characters, and in-game cinematics. You will work in concert with fellow artists, designers, and Art Direction to ensure a consistent aesthetic quality bar for lighting in our games. Additionally, you will collaborate with our graphics, tech art and tools teams to help refine the content creation pipeline in regards to lighting.

During these uncertain times and rapidly changing environment surrounding COVID-19, all positions at Bungie are subject to onboarding and working virtually/remotely. Once the studio is fully reopened, most work is expected to be performed in-person at our main headquarters in Bellevue, Washington.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain lighting in our games in a manner that is consistent with Art Direction.
  • Drive lighting for game worlds, dynamic/scripted lighting, character and hard surface object light rigs, and in-game cinematics from start to finish.
  • Stay informed on new developments in rendering, particularly with regard to realistic lighting, atmosphere and surfaces.
  • Work closely with the tools and engine departments to prototype and test new lighting technology.
  • Provide feedback and direction to other production artists who are working on lighting-related tasks.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • AA/BFA preferred, or at least demonstrates, through portfolio, an industry standard level of art.
  • Experience with materials/shaders and their relationship to light.
  • Strong understanding of compositing processes and experience in post-processing techniques.
  • Excellent color sense.
  • Wide understanding of lighting/rendering technologies (pre-render and real-time rendering, sub surface scattering, HDR, refraction, etc).
  • Strong background in traditional art skills.
  • Must be well versed in Autodesk Maya/Max, Adobe Photoshop and a variety of rendering technologies.
  • Must possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative environment, taking direction from the Art Director/Leads as necessary.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS

  • Experience with proprietary game engines a plus

Most Bungie employees and contractors will adopt a digital first approach allowing remote work in Bungie approved locations (outside of positions identified as 100% onsite in Bellevue/Seattle, or individuals preferring a hybrid/flex environment).
