Bungie is looking for a talented and experienced Cinematics Lead to join an established team of developers dedicated to crafting the vision and execution of narrative strengths of our franchise project, Destiny 2.

The Cinematics Lead is responsible for individual contributions, overseeing planning, creative direction, and implementation of in engine cinematics (IECs) within Destiny 2. This includes working to empower a talented team of cinematic artists and animators, balancing strong relationships with external partner studios, and keeping a consistent line of communication and collaboration amongst all upstream and downstream partnering teams that support the cinematics effort.

Under the direction of the Cinematics Director, and in collaboration with the Franchise and Project Narrative Leads, you will partner with Cinematics Production to achieve a high standard of real time cinematic content utilizing performance capture, animation, camera artistry, and editing. The Cinematics Lead will be tasked with ensuring that the expected direction, tone, and style all meet the qualitative and creative goals set by Leadership while also balancing fixed budget, schedule, and scope.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, pitch, and carry out the cinematic creative vision as required by the release, communicating that vision horizontally and vertically in partnership with the project leads

  • Maintain quality of real time cinematic content across all partnering disciplines including collaboration with narrative writing, casting, voice direction, performance capture, animation, editing, cinematography, lighting, VFX, and audio

  • Perform individual contributions to in game cinematics (camera animation, cinematic layout, cinematic editorial) balanced with broader leadership expectations

  • Ensure consistency of quality and tone across the real time cinematic experience, matching the vision set by the project leads and franchise leadership

  • Align and unify feedback from stakeholders and translate into actionable plans for the team

  • Hold regular reviews of content and provide clear, actionable feedback to the various contributors to the cinematic process

  • Manage direct reports, holding regular meetings to support the company’s people development review process and career growth goals, fostering team health and accountability

  • Help establish, improve, and drive the pipeline, processes and methods necessary to take a cinematic from script through final render in real-time

  • When needed, plan and direct motion capture performance sessions, which may at times require travel

  • Ensure that the cinematic deliverables are completed in accordance with challenging deadlines and production realities that are in line with shipping in a game-as-service environment

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Experience within the game, film/TV, or animation industries with successfully shipped AAA game projects or major film/CG features

  • Experience with creative direction and team management

  • Strong understanding of the fundamental tools of visual storytelling through cinematography, performance, and editing with an ability to transpose them to the interactive video game medium

  • Proactive problem-solving skills, able to identify creative issues and help to manage and resolve them efficiently

  • Sound artistic judgment and very strong creative sense provided through clear, effective communication skills

  • Strong technical implementation and problem-solving skills

  • Familiarity with game engines and game design pipelines

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS

  • Considerable understanding of the technical aspects of video game development, and awareness of broad video game culture

  • Proficiency working with Maya, MotionBuilder, Final Draft, and Autodesk Shotgun

  • Experience preparing and co-directing performance capture shoots

  • Familiarity with previous Destiny 2 Narrative and Cinematic Content

Listed below is this role's base pay range. In other locations that Bungie has approved for remote work, this pay range may be adjusted up to +/- 10% and some roles may be classified as non-exempt (hourly). This range is determined by an array of factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Bellevue Pay Range

$132,000 — $161,000 USD

Bungie full-time (non-contract) employees in the U.S. also receive:

  • 20 days of accrued time-off in the form of PTO and sabbatical days, depending on the level of the position

  • 10 paid Floating Days annually, prorated in the first year of employment based on start date

  • 10 paid Bungie-observed holidays annually

  • One hour of Paid Sick Time (PST) for every 30 hours worked

Contract and International FTE employees receive competitive benefits through their relevant contracting agency.
