Job Description

Blizzard Entertainment has an opportunity for an engineer to join the World of Warcraft Automation team. We provide automation services for the entire development team, developing tools to help designers, artists, and other engineers work faster and more accurately. As an automation engineer, you will be interfacing with many parts of World of Warcraft, including art assets, gameplay systems, server back instances, or the rendering engine. We are highly collaborative, and you’ll interface with designers and engineers of all disciplines as you help develop and refine automation tools in all areas of the gameplay experience.

The ideal candidate can analyze game systems and workflows with a critical eye and implement solutions to make those systems and workflows faster and easier to use. This will require outstanding people skills, excellent communication skills, and demonstrated programming experience (in the personal, educational, or professional arena).

COVID-19 Hiring Update: We’ve transitioned to a work-from-home model and we’re continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position. We understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.

Responsibilities

  • Implement automation tool features and workflow improvements for our stakeholders
  • Implement and execute automated tests designed to simulate player load on the game service
  • Coordinate with test stakeholders to measure and evaluate performance based on those tests
  • Participate in and contribute to a culture of inclusion and diversity

Requirements

  • Passion for technology, gaming, and/or game development
  • Demonstrated programming experience (personal or professional)
  • Experience developing and debugging in C#
  • Experience reading and analyzing code in other languages
  • Understanding of data structures and algorithms

Pluses

  • College degree in a related field (computer science, computer engineering, real time interactive simulation, etc.)
  • Passion for and in-depth knowledge of World of Warcraft
  • Previous experience working on tools or workflows for game development projects
  • Experience programming in at least one scripting language (Lua, Python, Perl, etc.)
  • Experience working on multiplayer, online games
  • Experience with relational databases (SQL)
  • Experience with web programming (user input & data display)
