The Battle.net & Online Products organization is home to 300+ superpowered engineers, product managers, and designers focused on the technology that powers Blizzard Entertainment’s games. We are looking for a senior technical leader with proven experience leading teams of engineers to design, build, maintain, and operate high-traffic, globally deployed web sites. You will be responsible for the experience seen by millions of players across web sites such as Worldofwarcraft.com, Playhearthstone.com, Diablo.com, Overwatch.com, Starcraft.com and many others.

As the Group Technical Manager, you will be responsible for setting technical vision and leading multiple engineering teams that can deliver on that vision. The teams include technical leads, individual engineering contributors and embedded resources from IT, QA and Design - all focused on building the future of our web site strategy and technical vision. You will partner with product management and design to help identify strategic opportunities, prioritize features, and drive for measurable results across multiple high-traffic web properties. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and foster a positive team culture
  • Build out the future technical strategy to support scaling our web sites to support more players and more games
  • Work together with Product Managers, Designers, Technical Leads and Technical Managers across Blizzard to define the product strategy, KPIs and key opportunities for our game web sites
  • Evaluate and mentor engineers and technical leads.

Requirements:

  • Technical, managerial, and leadership skills at the technical director level
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in web development and front-end engineering
  • Strong ability to partner with leadership from the larger development organization including engineering, product management, design, IT, QA, and others
  • Strong engineering skills and a proven aptitude for technical design
  • JavaScript proficiency and familiarity with multiple other programming languages
  • Operational excellence with testing, security and operational considerations as a part of the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Effective communicator at all levels.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or equivalent degree or experience.
