Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a well-rounded Real-Time 3D Character Modeling & Prop Artist to work within our award-winning In-game Cinematics Department. This artist must be knowledgeable of Blizzard’s varying artistic styles. They are continuously seeking to improve their skills and abilities with regards to real-time 3D asset creation. The ideal candidate works well within a small team environment and is eager to collaborate with other artists and departments to get the job done to the highest visual quality possible. They’re excited by the challenge of pushing the quality of Blizzard In-Game Cinematic assets to new heights.

COVID-19 Hiring Update: We’ve transitioned to a work-from-home model and we’re continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position. We understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.

Requirements & Skillset:

  • Ability to create visually stunning AAA character and prop assets along with the technical skillset required to get them in engine. (This includes modeling/sculpting, texturing/shading, map baking, hair grooming/cards, UVs and topology based on current real-time technical production requirements)
  • Thorough understanding of current real-time PBR pipelines and workflows as well as new trends regarding asset creation standards
  • Skilled at organic, hard-surface and stylized asset creation
  • Capable of interpreting artistic direction with ease, with or without concept art
  • Thorough understanding of anatomy, form, proportions, and silhouette
  • Self-motivated, strong communication skills and a collaborative team-player
  • Able to filter and evaluate artistic criticism on a professional level
  • Maintain production schedules juggling multiple assets or projects at one communicating any deadline concerns along the way
  • Work seamlessly with up/downstream departments and leads to deliver assets fitting their visual and technical requirements on time
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude while juggling multiple tasks and requests at once

Pluses:

  • 3+ years of Real-Time asset/cinematic experience as a Character modeling artist
  • Capable to execute the various artistic styles of our numerous Blizzard IPs
  • Strong foundation in the traditional arts
  • Understanding of lighting, camera lensing and how they affect assets, shaders and scale
  • Provide input on how to improve our current tools/pipelines/workflows
  • Knowledge of Unreal, or equivalent

Software Requirements: Maya, Zbrush/Mudbox, Photoshop, Substance Painter
