Job Description

Have you ever wanted to work at Blizzard? Our Character Tech Art department is looking for a highly motivated Associate Skin Support Artist to help the team as we expand the scope of the franchise and ramp up production on Overwatch 2.

As an Associate Skin Support Artist you will get the opportunity to work in a structured training program that will teach you aspects of the tech art pipeline and grow your technical expertise within Maya and our proprietary game engine. This position will give you an all-encompassing view of what goes into implementing the characters of Overwatch.

While supporting the skins work of the Character Technical Art team, you will help the team increase quality and the departments work capacity. Character Tech Art is a bastion of the skins pipeline and essential in figuring out how new designs can work on existing characters. While learning how the Overwatch skins pipeline works, you will help the Character Tech Art finish the skins process, gain on the job knowledge by quality checking Character Tech Artist’s work on Hero skins, and gain engine and Maya expertise while helping the Character Tech Art team scale their content across platforms.

As an Associate Skin Support Artist, you will get also get a front row seat to the exciting challenge of working on a new game and working side by side with industry leading talent across many diverse disciplines. In short, you will be part of a close-knit, collaborative community of artists, engineers and designers whose sole goal is to make a truly immersive game experience for our amazing community of players and fans from around the world.

COVID-19 Hiring Update: We've transitioned to a work-from-home model and we're continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position. We understand each person's circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.

Responsibilities

  • Review finished skins
    • Verify/repair Maya File integrity
    • Play with the skeleton and provide skinning feedback
    • Verify integrity of in engine assets
    • Testing in game functionality
  • Copying skin weights from source meshes to target meshes and cleaning them up
  • Adding in game physics for epic skins
  • Skinning and implementing LODs

Requirements

  • Understanding of Maya, either primarily in rigging or skinning, preferably both
  • Samples demonstrating passion for Maya or other 3d packages
  • Self-motivation, good communication skills, and a great team-player attitude
  • Able to work creatively as part of a large or small group
  • Able to effectively collaborate with modelers and tech artists
  • Skill in one of more related disciplines – modeling, rigging or technical art
  • Understanding of the visual style of Blizzard games
  • A passion for video games
