We are seeking an experienced technical leader reporting directly to the General Manager of the studio, providing oversight for shared BioWare and EA technologies that support our games. This position will effectively own and deliver the technical direction across multiple studio locations, and across a portfolio of games for EA BioWare.

BioWare creates games focused on rich stories, unforgettable characters and vast worlds. It operates primarily out of Edmonton (Alberta, CAN) and Austin (Texas, USA) creating some of the world’s most critically acclaimed titles since 1995. The studio is currently working on future game experiences for the Mass Effect™ franchise, one of the highest rated video game series of all time, and the Dragon Age™ franchise, whose latest entry was the 2014 Game of the Year. We are also working on announced projects Star Wars™ The Old Republic™, a story-driven massively multiplayer online game, and Anthem™, a co-operative Action-RPG set in a new and mysterious world.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • You will own BioWare's technical strategy, and partner with the game teams and studio leadership across multiple locations to ensure that our strategy and execution helps us deliver the best games in the industry.
  • You will be BioWare's most senior ambassador to platform manufacturers, third-party hardware providers and EA technology teams and councils. You will drive collaboration that delivers technology supporting amazing player experiences.
  • You will be technology lead for BioWare's shared technology teams and manager of its leaders.
  • You will mentor the most senior engineers and engineering leaders in the studio.
  • You will ensure that BioWare's game teams and central teams converge on the best technologies and practices to deliver games that delight our players.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated technical leadership over at least 3 product cycles of AAA games on high-def console or PC. Excellent understanding of software and game development practices.
  • Strong understanding of the game market. Able to anticipate and analyze complex software challenges and make clear roadmaps and recommendations that solve for studio and project business goals.
  • Can communicate complex concepts with audiences at many levels of technical ability. Demonstrated experience collaborating with stakeholders in many creative disciplines and across multiple locations and time zones.
  • Experience leading, empowering and inspiring teams. Invites diverse perspectives before making critical decisions. Strong at resolving conflicts and building buy-in with many stakeholders.
