You are a seasoned and talented Character Artist looking to build the next generation of games in VR. You have multiple years of experience with Maya, ZBrush and the Unity Editor (or other 3D game engines like Unreal) and love to create fun and interesting characters for a live-service, online game.

Senior Character Artist - BigBox Responsibilities:

  • Understand how to work with asset limitations, project milestones, and risks.
  • Create high quality, 3D detailed character models and assets.
  • Mentor and motivate other character artists.
  • Ensure art assets are performant and within budgets for draw calls, poly counts, ant texture memory without compromising visual quality.
  • Develop new character ideas that fit within conceptual designs, technical parameters, and production goals, for a live-service online game.
  • Help define and maintain art production pipelines, tools, and systems to scale assets from high-end PCs to mobile Android VR headsets.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 years work experience in game development as a character artist using Maya (or 3DSMax), Photoshop, ZBrush or Mudbox.
  • Effective communication skills with the experience to give and receive feedback well.
  • Experience mentoring and growing other artists.
  • Expert in realistic characters with a solid understanding of character form.
  • Proven modeling, sculpting, material, and texturing skills for PBR.
  • Solid knowledge in hi-poly modeling, digital sculpting, and low poly modeling techniques.
  • Portfolio of highly detailed 3D art with a focus on realistic characters.
  • Experience taking a character to completion from either a detailed or simple concept image.
  • Experience to effectively collaborate with game designers and programmers.
  • Understanding of asset optimization challenges/techniques in a shipped product.
  • Effective problem-solving and prototyping experience.
  • Hands-on experience with game engines such as Unreal, Unity, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong background in AR or VR.
  • Knowledge of hard surface modeling for armor and weapons.
  • Experience with Perforce and/or Git.
  • Experience with Marvelous Designer and Substance Painter.
  • Experience in animation and rigging.
