Director of Esports

Ball State University

Ball State University’s Department of Telecommunications welcomes applicants for the Director of Esports as part of the Mid-American Conference new Esports Collegiate Conference. The Director of Esports will oversee and lead the creation, coaching and operation of the Ball State Varsity Esports team, the collegiate conference composed of the Mid-American Conference institutions, and national organizations such as TESPA and NACE, serve as the Head Coach of the Varsity Esports team and be responsible for the BSU Varsity Esports team, venue, activities and budget. The Director will also oversee BSU and community activities related to Esports.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Sports Management, Sports Administration, Game Design, Computer Sciences or related field from an accredited institution. Two of years of experience managing competitive computer gaming. Two years of experience managing budgets and facilities. Ability to develop and pursue the vision, manage the business components, and develop plans to meet goals across all areas of the program. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to effectively develop and manage teams. Ability to successfully navigate complex networks of relationships, develop and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff personnel, academic personnel, and officials of external agencies and the general public. Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively. Effective marketing skills. Ability to work independently, set priorities, meet deadlines and work on various projects and programs concurrently. Ability to research, collect and analyze data. Commitment to diversity and multicultural programs and student development theory and ability to work with a high level of cultural competence and sensitivity. Knowledge of and familiarity with computer applications, such as ggLeap, Discord, online gaming sites – Battle.net, and Steam, Microsoft Office, data management systems, Adobe Creative Suite, Internet, email, etc.

Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in Communications, Sports Management, Sports Administration, Game Design or a related field from an accredited institution.
