Founded in 2018, Bad Robot Games is an evolving development & publishing house made up of game industry veterans who are committed to constantly innovating on how stories are played.

Working closely with our colleagues at Bad Robot Productions, our projects unite our games industry veterans, our film and TV colleagues, and our larger network of talent (writers, composers, sound designers, concept artists, and more), to allow us to blend areas of expertise, and diverse perspectives to create expansive worlds and immersive stories.

We are looking for a Studio Narrative Director to join the team and build something truly unique with us.

YOU WILL:

  • Own the vision for how we play stories, build and immerse players in worlds, implement tools for player-created narratives, create social engagement around our games’ narratives, and be the bridge between gameplay and storytelling for the studio
  • Work closely with partners and studio leadership to bring the vision of the game to life through narrative structures and the written, audio, and visual support that creates the best experience possible
  • Own the tone, style, and consistency of the game's narrative - through narrative design, writing, audio and visual direction, and in creating guidelines for supportive assets and features
  • Function as the primary point person for any questions, needs, or discussion about the narrative in our games
  • Empower your team members with clear expectations, and hold them accountable for their results in narrative execution
  • Help coordinate production of supportive linear media and VO sessions (preparing scripts, providing direction, etc.), provide support for casting, voice recording, and animation direction
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to evaluate potential projects and partners, and develop and implement the narrative plan and approach to our projects
  • Aid in the development and maintenance of documentation to support the team
  • Create a collaborative environment for narrative ideas to emerge and grow
  • Work with production, other team leads, and directors to help create task estimates and schedules for the team
  • Work with Design and Tech to create tools based on the needs of the Narrative Designers and the project
  • Support narrative direction needs across the entire studio
  • Responsible for building the Narrative Design and Writing team to meet the needs of our projects

YOU HAVE:

  • Crafted stories in games that are highly regarded and representational of your vision
  • Leadership experience, and have worked at the Director level in previous roles
  • Creativity and passion for innovating in how stories are played in games
  • Deep cross-functional experience collaborating across game design, audio and visual project teams and leads
  • Deep experience collaborating on narratives within multiple mediums
  • Experience working as a narrative or game designer on multiple shipped games
  • An excellent understanding of non-linear narrative systems and structures
  • Experience working with narrative design tools (such as Final Draft, Inkle, Twine, etc.)
  • Familiarity with UE4: Blueprints or equivalent scripting knowledge
  • Experience with Google Docs or GSuite Ecosystem
  • Presentation and pitching skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a remote environment: Slack, Zoom, Discord, etc. are all second nature

  • It’s 2021, games are being made by developers spread across the world. Our HQ is located in Santa Monica, CA, but our team collaborates from all over.
