Avalanche Studios is the division dedicated to ambitious, externally published, AAA open world games like Just Cause, Mad Max, and Rage 2 - our upcoming title Contraband is a co-op smuggler’s paradise set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan. Contraband is a brand new IP published by Xbox Game Studios, and we are looking for several systems programmers to join our Engagement team at the Stockholm or New York offices.

The Position In this role, you will work with designing, implementing, extending and supporting game systems on top of our proprietary Apex engine. These systems will all tie in to Contraband’s gameplay and you will work closely with both gameplay programmers and game designers. Since Contraband is a multiplayer game, any features that you work on will need to be developed with this in mind. You will also need to collaborate with backend developers to help ensure that the systems you work on fits with the game’s backend ecosystem.

Along with the rest of the engagement team you will work towards creating engaging player experiences that go beyond the minute-to-minute gameplay, essentially what makes the game fun in the long term.

We believe the ideal candidate has a passion for creating sustainable and extendable game systems and has at least three years of experience doing such work. As with most aspects of game development, a keen sense of fun gameplay is also really important.

As you will be an important part of the development team, it is crucial that you enjoy working closely with both designers and other programmers.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency in C++ programming, including knowledge of profiling and optimization

  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment

  • Experience working as a systems programmer on at least one shipped title

  • A keen sense of fun gameplay

Beneficial Qualifications

  • Experience with open world games

  • Experience with multiplayer games

  • Experience working with proprietary engines

  • Experience with PlayFab or other similar services
