Auroch Digital is looking for animators who are passionate about creating dynamic and compelling, hand-keyed animation for multiple upcoming projects, ranging from retro-inspired action games to stylized top-down strategy games.

Auroch are part of the Sumo Group of companies, originally established in 2010 and with an extensive catalogue, including Mars Horizon and Dark Future: Blood Red States. We have an exciting stable of licensed and independent IP games in development including our upcoming beer brewing hobby game Brewmaster. We have a company ethos that strongly values work-life balance and supporting our people to grow. We want our people to have a positive influence on other team members and a passion to support others.

The Role @ Auroch Digital:

As an associate or mid level animator, you’ll have previous experience on a production in feature films, television series, or other games. You’re passionate about animation and its role in games and design, and are comfortable working in a cross-disciplinary team of artists, designers and programmers.

Responsibilities:

  • Create hand-keyed character animation in a variety of styles, with a focus on gameplay needs and in-game appearance
  • Rigging and skinning basic to intermediate character models according to gameplay requirements
  • Able to plan, estimate times for and prioritize assigned animation tasks

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a character animator working on commercial game projects or equivalent experience in other industries
  • A demo reel showing high quality, hand-keyed animations with a focus on visual storytelling, gameplay requirements and animation principles.
  • Excellent knowledge of Maya, Max, or the animation tools of your choice
  • Able to integrate assets into the game in-engine in Unity or Unreal
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a cross-discipline team as needed
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience working with animations graphs and state machines in Unity or Unreal
  • Interest in other areas of animation and game development, such as modelling, texturing, UI animation, or VFX
  • Experience animation for strategy/management genre games
  • A passion for games, with strong opinions about their animations!

Work benefits:

  • We don’t agree with using crunch (here's our take on it)
  • We won’t get in the way of you working on your own indie dev projects in your time
  • Remote, office based or a hybrid are all totally fine options
  • 29 days holiday total (including your Birthday off!)
  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible working
  • Pensions contribution
  • Visa support for non-UK residents (subject to meeting the requirements)
  • Ongoing support for training and career development

Application Information:

Your application should include a short covering letter explaining a little about your previous experience and why you think you would be a good fit for the role, and a current CV with relevant work history. Though not required, if you have a portfolio or examples of previous work please also include them with your application.
