Ascendant Studios is looking for a Quality Assurance lead to direct our internal and external quality assurance testers. The ideal candidate will have a passion for Quality Assurance as a discipline, and will have had experience growing QA teams and establishing QA processes for new projects and studios. They will be dedicated to ensuring consistent knowledge-sharing, learning, and documentation, as well as improving tools and processes as necessary for your team to excel. They will frequently be called upon to troubleshoot and adapt to solve problems in dynamic, high-energy situations.

This is a full time position. We are all currently working remotely due to Covid-19, but once we return the position will be based in our office in San Rafael, CA. Applicants must be located in the San Francisco bay area, or be able to relocate within 60 days of their start date.

What you'll do:

  • Provide leadership and development of a QA team for end-to-end QA on a AAA game
  • Partner with QA and Leadership to both drive and manage project QA needs and deliverable across both internal and external development teams
  • Proactively assess and communicate the needs or progress of development partners, and how they relate to the QA teamโ€™s priorities and tasks.
  • Actively develop and revise QA project and test plans, tracking work, risk management, and QA strategies and process.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of training, testing tools, plans, and supporting documentation.

Who you are:

  • 5+ years of professional QA experience in embedded/development QA, with shooter and action title experience preferred
  • Worked as a tester for AA/AAA game across multiple platforms
  • At least one project cycle in a QA leadership role
  • Previously responsible for overall test scheduling for project(s), writing test plans, and ensuring schedules and plans are accomplished by the team
  • Has directed and collaborated with external partners for QA and general development
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve on the fly, and collaborate efficiently across disciplines in a small, fast moving team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, great time management and organization skills
  • Flexible and able to quickly adapt to to changing priorities
  • Comprehensive understanding of test cycles and processes
  • Familiarity with bug tracking and documentation tools (e.g. Jira, Hansoft, Confluence, etc.).

Bonus points:

  • Shipped or currently working on a title on the Playstation 5 or Xbox Series X a huge plus
  • Previous experience on a multiplayer title
  • 2+ released game titles in a leadership role within QA
  • Previous work with Unreal Engine
  • Previous test automation experience
  • Experience with Game Development software such as Maya, Houdini, Unity, Radiant, or other development or mod tools
