Digital Software and Video Games is on a mission to build the best place on earth for consumers to buy video games and software. We have set up a team to build out a next generation system with new features to support our goal of becoming the best possible connection between producers and consumers of digital software and video games content.

As a senior software manager of the engineering team, based in Seattle, you will play a key role in the evolution of the feature set and corresponding systems, with opportunities to create enormous benefit for our customers and Amazon. You will manage engineering resources which include a core of engineering managers, quality assurance engineers and other highly skilled individuals. You will take research from theory to production implementation by overcoming performance, scalability, and resiliency challenges. You should enjoy optimization through rapid experimentation, have extremely high standards, and a strong ability to implement in the face of ambiguity. Expertise in specialized areas such as Search, Recommendation Systems, Customer Experience, and Multivariate testing is desired.

You will be responsible for mentoring existing and actively recruiting new software development engineer talent. We seek a technical and creative lead who: (1) is passionate about their work, (2) works well with others, (3) has a positive attitude, (4) delivers results and (5) can collaborate closely with their team, product management, business stakeholders and other client teams.

You will lead talented and nimble teams of engineers to design and build out both new and already identified key features and services. Responsibilities include direct management of managers and engineers, as well as processes that ensure the quality of software development and releases and strategic planning.

You will work closely with your team to develop estimates to help define the product features, roadmaps, and use cases to deliver features and services. You will then work closely with the product team and stakeholders to bring these new features into production.

  • Manage your group of engineers into a highly performing engineering organization.
  • Hire and develop top-performing engineers and other managers.
  • Work with business leaders, engineering leads, and product managers to help define product requirements.
  • Develop and execute on project plans and delivery commitments.
  • Build and maintain world-class customer experience and operational excellence for your deliverables.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software development experience.
  • 5+ years of management experience, including managing managers and senior engineers.
  • Computer Science fundamentals (based on a BS or MS in CS or related field.)
  • Proven track record of shipping large complex scalable systems/applications in an agile environment.
  • Experience of having worked in at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as Java or C++.
  • Experience with professional software engineering best practices such as Agile project management, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, project planning, and execution skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent technical communication skills with peers and partners (technical and non-technical).
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in a retail environment with a global responsibility
  • Understanding of and experience with customer experience best practices.
  • Desire and energy to work in a fast-paced environment – previous startup experience a plus.
