As a Software Development Manager (SDM) in Amazon Games Services, you will manage a team focused on creating the core technologies and services needed to build, launch, and run online games worldwide. This will be a cross-disciplinary group of engineers to help build and maintain highly reliable live services for games. You will work closely with your team to identify and solve ambiguous technical problems, architecture deficiencies, or areas where your teams services could improve developer integrations or related customer experiences.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be passionate about forming and maintaining a highly effective team; both from hiring and developing others
  • Keep the development team deeply connected to goals by broadcasting customer needs, customer feedback, product roadmaps, and product KPIs
  • Be a champion for operational excellence: insisting on the highest standards and continuous improvements
  • Work closely with engineers to drive architecture and develop the best technical design
  • Collaborate on product road-mapping, project planning and consistently deliver against plans
  • Drive clarity on requirements and align on technical vision and execution
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Regularly report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance
  • Review technical deliverables to provide detailed feedback

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree or higher in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of software development experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with at least one object-oriented programming language such as Java or C++.
  • 2+ years of management experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Game industry experience working on large-scale, commercial online game services.
  • Experience building and operating extremely high volume and highly scalable online services.
  • Experience with distributed services oriented architectures.
  • Experience of building solutions using AWS technologies.
  • Java/C++ Coding Experience.
  • Strong analytic and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with professional software engineering best practices such as Agile project management, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Expert in software engineering practice, including system architecture design, testing, instrumentation, automation and devops.
  • Deep experience with monitoring, metrics, and instrumentation.
  • Strong leadership, project planning and execution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
