Amazon Games is seeking a highly talented and motivated Systems Development Engineer to join our Live Operations team in Southern California supporting an upcoming title.

At Amazon Games, we’re creating compelling games like New World, a sandbox MMO set on a supernatural continent in the 17th century, our multiplayer shooter Crucible, and our upcoming The Lord of the Rings MMO, plus unannounced projects. We are looking for an experienced Systems Development Engineer to join our team and help take our business to the next level!

System Engineers at Amazon are the backbone of our services. They work on large scale system design and help in our operational decision making. They are both hands on architects and implementers. They have a strong sense of ownership of the overall health and effectiveness of our services, adding value to the team by bringing ideas and solutions to the table. The ideal candidate will have strong networking, implementation, troubleshooting and engineering experience and should also be able to demonstrate strong coding/scripting skills.

This role will manage the implementation of deploying our Game Services onto AWS. The person in this role will work very closely with the Solutions Architect on the team to ensure smooth implementation of game service from database to game servers for an upcoming title.

Responsibilities In This Role

  • Review and refine design and architecture documents presented by partner teams for operational readiness, fault tolerance and scalability.
  • Leverage good coding/scripting skills to automate tasks and improve workload analysis mechanisms.
  • Perform research on all client issues and document all findings and implement all technical activities with help of metadata registry.
  • Assist the Solutions Architect to deploy game service (from database to game server)
  • Participate in all phases of the design, test, and implementation process.
  • Help modify the project scope, identify and troubleshoot problems with implementation or efficiency, perform data analysis to assess what types of modifications need to occur, and determine how well the new implementations are working after the project is complete. Once in place, partner with Solutions Architects to train end users on how to use new system.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS Computer Science or other technical or related experience
  • 5+ years with BASH/Powershell/Python/Ruby or any other scripting languages
  • 2+ years of professional experience as a systems engineer or in related occupations (systems administration, DevOps engineering, site reliability engineering, networking/automation, software/systems development)
  • Experience in a 24x7 production environment
  • Experience with AWS Services - AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or AWS Certified Solutions Architect

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and/or implementing automated software testing, deployment and performance analysis systems.
  • Experience with relational or non-relational databases and with distributed systems architecture
  • Demonstrable expertise around specifying, designing, and/or implementing health, performance monitoring tools, and software management tools for 24x7 environments
  • Must be able to see opportunities for improvement, take ownership, and work closely with others to drive operational improvement
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of issues
  • Proven experience creating end-user training and documentation
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
