What We Need

We are looking for a Senior Tools engineer to build and lead a distributed team of tools engineers. You have a strong sense of systems architecture and engineering best practices. You will work on a wide variety of technologies and languages - from artist-focused tools like Maya or Unreal, web systems to facilitate build deployment, or anything in between. You have a passion for building technology for the benefit of others, and you're a team player with strong interpersonal skills that can help bring technical solutions to creative problems.

What You Will Do

  • Build and lead a small team of Tools Engineers that are onsite, remote, or external vendors.
  • Partner with Director of Technology to identify exciting R&D opportunities, partners and technologies to help innovate the ways in which games are made
  • Represent engineering in high-level budget and project planning, early stage estimation, and technical breakdowns of a project requirements.
  • Collaborate with game teams to assess technical requirements and identify key partners
  • Create new and maintain existing software and documentation

Who We Think Will Be A Great Fit

  • Advanced programming techniques, design patterns and architecture
  • Ability to lead and mentor of team of multi-discipline engineers and external vendors
  • Ability to manage large, diverse codebases with multiple branches Can work well in limited resource environments
  • Able to build strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders Communication, documentation, and organization
  • 6+ years advanced tools programming with C/C++, C#, or Python
  • 4+ years in the VFX/Game/Feature animation industry
  • 2+ years working with DCC/Scene Editing environments (Maya, 3dsMax, Unreal)
  • Has worked on two or more AAA Games/Feature Animations/VFX productions in a lead or supervisory role

Bonus Points

  • Passionate about helping to solve problems with creative tooling
  • Experience with C++ and writing tools for UE4, Unity, etc
  • ML/AI Experience
  • 3D Math, Lighting Algorithms, Shaders, Character Animation
  • Thorough understanding of Content Creation and Asset Management pipelines for VFX/Games
  • Familiar with Web Technologies, databases, and distributed systems
