DIRECTOR OF DATA ENGINEERING

Who We Are

2K publishes some of the most popular video game franchises on the planet including Mafia, Borderlands, BioShock, NBA 2K, WWE 2K, Evolve, XCOM, and Sid Meier’s Civilization. The analytics group is responsible for collecting, processing and utilizing the data in the right way to identify problems and opportunities across the company and to build solutions for them. As part of this, analytics team works with the studios and other partners to build reliable, scalable, and high-performance data pipelines to help inform all aspects of our business. From data designed to improve our development processes to data designed to drive critical business decisions, our group is constantly facing fun and challenging problems in the big data space.

What We Need

We are looking for an engineering director who will lead and grow the data engineering team in the analytics group. S/he will take over the ingestion, transformation and manipulation of unstructured data from across the organization and will be responsible for maintaining, developing and refining the data infrastructure and supporting the rest of the analytics team in various data related services such as building robust pipelines through APIs, managing the ETL/ELT processes and creating and organizing dashboards/reports.

  • Working with the studios to make sure that we have the right data ingestion in place
  • Architecting data models that are reusable, scalable and performant
  • Own ETL pipelines, data warehouses, analytics tools, and other aspects of the company’s big data platform
  • Own migration strategies, retention policies, and performance improvements for data warehouses
  • Manage the BI team with developing interactive dashboards and reports, and managing the access control
  • Work with game, marketing and analytics teams to gather requirements and build, test, and deploy new data pipelines based on business requirements
  • Participate in the architectural and infrastructural decisions to build scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant systems
  • Translate requirements into technical designs and product roadmaps
  • Support the analytics team with building and scheduling jobs to pull data from various APIs
  • Grow the team by actively recruiting, evaluating, hiring and mentoring team members

Who We Think Will Be a Great Fit

We are looking for a director with experience building batch and real-time big data solutions to join our analytics initiative. Even better would be specific experience with the Hadoop ecosystem and AWS services such as Glue, EMR, Kinesis, and Redshift. That said, our team values strong engineering and interpersonal skills over any specific language/technology experience. We also place a lot of importance on individuals being self-motivated and self-directed. This is especially important given the ownership and responsibility that comes with the role.

  • 5+ years in Engineering and/or real-time data pipelines
  • Experience leading a team and projects in a dynamic environment
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated attitude with an ability to carry ideas from inception to completion
  • Experience building highly scalable batch and real-time ETL pipelines
  • Experience designing and optimizing database schemas (columnar databases preferred)
  • Experience working with data streaming technologies (Kinesis, Kafka etc.)
  • Expertise with AWS tech and deployment (Docker, Jenkins, Lambda, etc.)
  • Proficient using scripting languages, specifically for automation and having a sense for good development practices (Python preferred)
  • Proficient using Source Control tools (Perforce or Git preferred)
