Founded in 2017, XR Games is a multi award-winning virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) game development studio with over 100 members of staff. We make games that provide 3D virtual experiences for players to navigate, explore, and have fun in.

We work closely with Sony Pictures to bring movie licences to life in VR as well as working with the world’s largest publishers and hardware manufacturers such as Meta, PlayStation, Microsoft, and more!

Following the success and critical acclaim of projects such as Zombieland: Headshot Fever, we are now working on multiple high-profile projects with recognisable IP’s & licences as we continue to grow and invest in our future.

The Role

We are looking for a Lead Programmer to assume overall responsibility for an exciting VR project. Reporting to the Head of Programming you will be responsible for growing and managing a team of programmers as well as being a key point of contact for the client.

Your Accountabilities

  • Project Leadership - Overseeing the programming team, co-ordinating their efforts and ensuring the project progresses according to the defined timeline. You will provide technical guidance, make key decisions and drive the project to completion.

  • Management - You will have line management responsibility for the programmers on your project and will be expected to help develop their skills and careers as well as the project. You will also play an important role in the recruitment of new programmers for the team.

  • Client Management - You will act as one of the primary points of contact for client interactions where you will be able to address any technical queries or concerns.

  • Resource Planning - Assessing the project requirements you will be able to allocate resources effectively and ensure your team has the right tools, technology and talent to deliver. You will work closely with production and HR to optimise the resources available.

Are you the right person?

The right person for this role will already have significant experience in a lead role and will have shipped multiple projects in a lead programer capacity. Your experience should mostly be working on projects with a C++ / Unreal Engine tech stack and you should be able to demonstrate your team leadership/management capabilities.

  • Deep C++ coding experience

At XR Games hybrid & flexible working is standard, we have a blended team who could be based in our Leeds HQ or remote around the world depending on the role. For this role to be successful, we will require the person to have a regular presence in the studio and therefore being 100% remote is not a possibility. We can and will assist financially with relocation for those looking to do so as well as sponsoring visas too.
