General Position Description: Head coach of new intercollegiate eSports program. Position will begin late Fall 2021 with focus on recruitment during the 2021-22 academic year. Competition will begin during the 2022-23 academic year. Head coach will have unique opportunity to work with administration to build a new program and create a positive competitive gaming culture on campus.

Reports To: Director of Athletics.

Terms of Employment: Full-time, 10-month position with benefits.

Start Date: Fall 2021

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership, organization and supervision of all aspects of the program.
  2. Recruit and maintain an expected roster size of eSport student-athletes at University.
  3. Schedule all team practices and competitions.
  4. Instruct, teach and coach student-athletes during practices and competitions.
  5. Manage budget and coordinate all equipment repair and/or equipment purchases.
  6. Monitor academic progress, academic eligibility and compliance of student-athletes.
  7. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches.
  8. Serve as primary spokesperson for the eSports program on campus or in the community.
  9. Generate financial support through sponsorships, donations, camps or other fund-raisers.
  10. Coordinate team involvement with community outreach or service projects.
  11. Responsible for general oversight and maintenance of the eSports arena and equipment.
  12. Ensure that all program operations are compliant with local, regional and national rules.
  13. Attend all required departmental, university, and conference meetings.
  14. Carry out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required. Coaching or playing experience at a high level of competition. Demonstrated ability to teach gaming skill development and competition strategies. Strong technology background. Familiarity with eSports software and hardware equipment. Strong communication and organizational skills. Knowledge of collegiate eSports games such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Hearthstone preferred. Ability to identify and recruit eSport student-athletes. Willingness to travel for recruiting, team competitions or attending conferences. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
