Job Description

  • Develop shaders and materials for use in the game engine
  • Work with artists to create Shaders/Materials/2D art and bring it into the engine
  • Support and educate artists and engineers in the use of the 2D art pipeline and user-facing engine tools
  • Provide hands-on support to artists and engineers in regard to asset performance and validation
  • Work with artists and engineers to determine 2D art needs
  • Coordinate material/shader usage and promote efficient reuse of 2D assets
  • Review creative process and identify opportunities for tool improvements
  • Develop 2D art pipeline tools with an eye towards usability and efficiency
  • Solve challenging technical issues in the 2D asset pipeline
  • Collaborate with engineers to diagnose and resolve in-game problems
  • Document pipeline and tools development processes
  • Inspire and empower the art team to optimize their processes

Qualifications

  • Familiar with building shaders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with 2D/3D art pipeline tools (Photoshop, Substance, etc.)
  • Understanding of the performance implications of game art asset creation
  • Ability to research relevant documentation

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of GLSL (or other modern shader language)
  • Experienced developing custom tools
  • VFX Creation Skills
  • Working knowledge of Python, Batch and Javascript
  • Knowledge of Cocos Creator
  • Problem solver
