Job Description

WHAT YOUR JOURNEY WILL BE

The Lead Artist is responsible for facilitating the creation of high-quality visuals in support of the artistic direction of the game. He is expected to push the quality and innovation of making world 3D art assets for games and mentoring more junior artists across the team. He is also expected to raise any concerns or problems and then try to propose solutions, unblocking production bottlenecks.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Functional

  • Lead a team and be able to translate art direction into actionable task for the team to carry out;
  • Understand the visual direction of the Art Director and communicate it to your team;
  • Resolve question from your team whenever possible. Escalate issues to the Art Director if the direction is not clear;
  • Support the hideout group in providing mid-level visual direction and facilitating world art creation;
  • Support the marketing efforts with visual assets as necessary;
  • Follow any story boards, written descriptions, and/or scripts to visualize and develop ideas;
  • Work closely with fellow artists, programmers, animators, game designers and sound designers;
  • Work closely and with direction of Creative Leadership to help create high quality 3D visuals.

Collaboration

  • Shows maturity in problem and conflict resolution. Proactively voices out concern to stake holders with supported justification;
  • Maintains a professional and healthy relationship with all the team members;
  • Approachable and maintains a positive attitude in meetings (reviews, planning…);
  • Show exemplary commitment, even in critical situations;
  • Collaborate with the art director(s) to ensure alignment between artistic vision and lore;
  • Ensure close collaboration with the collab studios when necessary.

Communication

  • Actively communicate all dependencies, changes and task completion to PMs;
  • Initiate and participate in the knowledge sharing, problem solving, and technology research with other team leaders within and/or across projects.

Pipelines and processes

  • Create and maintain workflow documentation for your team’s content;
  • Work with team members to teach them best practices and techniques. Ensure that they are using them effectively;
  • Monitor content to ensure that memory and performance budgets are respected.

Organizational

  • Works according to the priorities in JIRA;
  • Shows maturity in planning his work and providing visibility to production;
  • Provides regular visibility on progress of his work by archiving and sharing content.

Management

  • Regular 1:1 with reports;
  • Ensure JDs are written and OKRs are defined.

Business

  • Has very good knowledge about the video game industry and its evolution;
  • Uses his knowledge of the competition to adapt his game to the expectations of consumers;
  • Promotes the project's marketing orientations.

For the studio and the group:

  • The success of the project is the main objective, success also means growing the studio competencies;
  • Identify and promotes the application of the best ideas; Contributes to major innovations;
  • Support recruitment, training, team building, knowledge sharing, and motivating;
  • Share experience, develop a Ubisoft culture.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Large experience working as Game Artist on level or 3D assets;
  • AAA shipping experience on consoles;
  • Strong people management experience;
  • Passion for gaming industry;
  • You are a gamer and understand the player's journey experience;
  • Great communication skills;
  • You thrive within ambiguity and likes to take initiatives.
