Position Summary: Senior Lighting Artist

  • Must have excellent lighting and composition skills with exceptional foundational knowledge of lighting, color theory, and cinematography.
  • 6+ years of experience as a Lighting Artist in game development.
  • A minimum of 1 AAA UE4 game shipped for PC and 8th/9th Gen Console as a Senior Lighting Artist.
  • Extensive portfolio demonstrating your knowledge and talent is required, demonstrating your understanding of Lighting solutions across multiple situations and mood.
  • As a Senior Lighting Artist you will join a team of Artists and Designers to present our games in the best light possible.
  • Full-time, 100% Remote position. We are an Unreal studio.

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality, realistic lighting solutions that meet the game’s requirements and the vision set by the Art Director.
  • Work closely with the Art Director and Tech Artists to ensure quality of milestone deliverables that are both visually stunning and adheres to the technical performance targets.
  • Assist the Art Director in researching solutions and executing on priorities while working effectively to meet milestone deadlines.

Required Qualifications

  • B.A. in Art, Photography, Film/Cinematography, or other relevant majors.
  • 6+ years of experience as a Lighting Artist for games with at least 1 successful AAA UE4 game shipped on PC and 8th/9th Gen Console as a Senior Lighting Artist.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates your impressive lighting skills and technical understanding of principles applied to a variety of challenging scenarios.
  • Must possess a keen eye for aesthetics and beauty, plus the ability to visualize what is possible before committing resources and time.
  • Expert understanding of lighting setup, color theory, composition, presentation, optimization; and the ability to execute at a high level of proficiency and speed based on your expertise.
  • Complete understanding of forward/deferred lighting methodologies/settings for optimal visual impact and efficiency in UE4.
  • Deep understanding of how physical materials and finishes,VFX, and Atmospheric conditions affect lighting/mood/reflections; and the ability to compensate/enhance for these dependencies.
  • Deep understanding of Post Process parameters, Camera settings, and Lens FX features in UE4.
  • Experience with driving the creation of custom light functions and IES profiles for use in UE4.
  • Proficiency with Color Grading for HDR/Linear Color Spaces.
  • Good communication and organizational skills in working with other Artists/Tech Artists throughout the entire game development process.
  • Proficiency with tools used for feedback, tracking, and integration. Photoshop, Shotgun, JIRA, and Perforce experience is preferred.

Preferred

  • Solid understanding of UE4 Sequencer Tool.
  • Ability to debug lighting errors, both visually and technically.
  • Familiarity with emerging tools, techniques, and technologies that inform and enhance the way we light our games.
