The Washington Post is seeking two reporters to cover the burgeoning video gaming industry and the world of esports.

We’re looking for writers with a self-starter attitude and a willingness to embrace a start-up culture. The ideal candidates for these contract positions will have a passion for gaming and a strong familiarity with the video gaming industry and esports leagues. The reporters should have experience covering a beat and a proven ability for handling breaking news as well as writing features. They must be capable of balancing longer-term projects with quick-turn assignments off daily developments. These contracts have one-year terms and potential for renewal.

The ideal candidates should be able to demonstrate their facility with digital storytelling and a deep familiarity with Internet culture. They also should be skilled at using social media platforms as both reporting tools and content distribution channels. At least two years’ experience as a professional journalist is required.

Some night and weekend work will be required. These jobs will be based in our Washington newsroom and are not eligible for remote work.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter outlining a vision for the role, resume and three clips (as a pdf) to Mike Hume at the email address attached below by July 31.
