SUMMARY OF THE ROLE: As a Junior Software Engineer for the Digital Engineering team, you will help build the SteelSeries web-based experience, touching everything from direct sales of our products on our website, to crafting exciting customer experiences for our SteelSeries community. You will learn to become a core backend engineer for our team, developing in Python and Django, and understand the different systems that help support an ecommerce website of our size. We take great pride in crafting clean, usable code, as well as learning from one another. We’re a company built by gamers and made for gamers!
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Write lots of Python code – contribute real changes to our site that will be used by thousands of people daily.
- Work one-on-one with our Senior Python Developers to learn about the many systems we have that build our ecommerce and community hubs.
- Take on tasks to implement new site features, fix bugs, or write improvements.
- Work with a tight-knit, fast growing team with a company focused on gaming.
- Help build a robust RMA system for handling user return orders.
- Develop new tools and libraries for frontend developers and UX designers to make our site look and feel awesome.
- Help support and launch new SteelSeries products for sale on our web store.
- Work on new software and online initiatives that are yet to be announced.
- Game on, test, and give feedback on unannounced super-secret hardware products in development.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent program.
- Familiar with Python (either 2 or 3).
- Experience with web development framework (Django, Flask, Rails, etc.).
- Familiar with SQL
- Familiar with HTML
- Can read/write JavaScript
- Experience with Linux/Unix based OS.
- Experience working with task/queuing systems (Celery, AMQP, etc.).
