We’re looking for a senior narrative designer for a new cross-platform Strategy MMORPG project with an original IP and world.

The ideal candidate will have several years experience with long form narrative planning, design and execution in video games. This role will require coordination with the Principal Narrative Designer to execute his vision and own the writing output of a team of writers, and be responsible for best practices of writer rooms, screenplay, and dialogue writing. It will also require close collaboration with the game design team for mission design, player progression, and monetization goals, as well as cross-collaboration with all creative areas across the entire project. All writers on the game implement scripts in-engine, including this role.

The project is in the early stages, but the game has funding and will enter the pre-production phase in the coming months. This senior narrative designer role will have the opportunity to help establish the world-building, characters, core story arc(s), side story content, and season arcs for the franchise.

What You Will Do

  • Execute Principal Narrative Designer’s vision
  • Own all writing deliverables for the entire game
  • Manage team of writers
  • Ensure screenplay and dialogue quality from writers
  • Implement scripts in-engine
  • Contribute opinions and ideas to all elements of the game
  • Work cross-functionally with other designers, art, engineering, production, audio, QA, community and any other necessary teams
  • Do everything within your power to ensure the ultimate boss, the players, love the game

What You Will Need

The candidate must have experience as an owner in several of the following categories of design:

  • Writers rooms
  • Long-form narrative in video games
  • Character planning
  • Character arc planning
  • Fantasy genre worldbuilding
  • Screenplay
  • Dialogue
  • Quest/mission designs
  • The candidate must be a master communicator, able to listen, gather feedback and apply that feedback efficiently and effectively
  • The candidate must be a passionate consumer of games that fit within the RPG, Strategy or MMO category.
  • The candidate must be able to both act independently and work collaboratively within teams.
  • Experience directly working with proprietary game engine tools or similar (e.g. - Unity)
  • Experience with writing technical design documentation (e.g - briefs, specs, etc.) and iterating with a team to create new features, narrative content, or other technical additions to the game

BONUS POINTS

  • Experience or familiarity with level design or world map design
  • Experience with managing player progression, gameplay opportunities, game difficulty, and team / KPI goals through quest design, world-building, and narrative writing.
