We are seeking an experienced Animation Director for the development of an upcoming new title. Do you love collaborating with talented developers to build genre-defining games? Join us as we embark on a new journey!

The Animation Director is an industry veteran and a craft expert. They have practical experience with defining and championing a world-class vision for animation, of delivering on that vision in support of the game’s overall goals, and they have a proven track record of execution from concept to ship.

The Animation Director will lead and coordinate an experienced animation team, working in collaboration with partners across disciplines to define and deliver the creative goals of a large-scale new project.

The ideal candidate has held Senior/Lead roles on multiple titles and is able to combine their expertise in content creation, collaboration, and communication to craft immersive and engaging player experiences. The ideal candidate also stays informed and up to date on industry trends in animation tools and technologies, and has knowledge of a wide array of animation workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the core animation style of the game, and communicate it clearly via defined specifications, reference materials, and style guides for both gameplay and cinematics animation, to ensure it can be successfully and consistently executed.
  • Ensure all animation assets are of the highest quality and meet the intended vision of the game.
  • Partner with the Game Directors to identify and solve animation challenges, establish and maintain quality standards, and influence the technical direction to best support the visual, design, and narrative goals of the project.
  • Build, lead, and guide a team of animators through all phases of development.
  • Balance animation scope with an ambitious vision, by refining estimation processes, utilizing efficient content-creation methods, and establishing clear review gates.
  • Direct actors and stunt performers during motion capture and performance capture shoots.
  • Work with the other directors, leads, and producers to support collaboration across art, animation, design, audio, programming, and user research to reach project goals and offer animation-driven solutions to design challenges.
  • Contribute to studio and team building efforts including team training/development, recruiting, community outreach, and networking.

Requirements

  • 10 years of recent experience developing real-time 3d videogame animation content.
  • Shipped at least 1 AAA game title in an Animation Lead or Animation Director role.
  • Demonstrated experience in animation workflows, tools, and pipelines. Ideally this includes hands-on experience in both Gameplay and Cinematics animation, using both keyframe and motion-capture animation techniques.
  • Ability to lead animators to high-quality results by quickly providing clear and meaningful feedback.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organization skills.
