Rockstar NYC is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join our Social Club Engagement team, both as an individual contributor and someone who can lead a talented and diverse team of developers. This is a full-time permanent position based out of Rockstar’s unique game development studio in the heart of NYC.

With the rapid growth of Grand Theft Auto Online, and other long-term Social Club plans, the successful candidate will be working on bleeding edge technology with an internationally established team, while having great attention to detail, being a strong team player and have excellent communication skills.

WHAT WE DO

  • The Rockstar Games Social Club is a technology platform that powers Rockstar’s online titles and our ability to deliver world-class player experiences.

  • We create and maintain high-impact features for Grand Theft Auto Online, Red Dead Online, the Rockstar Games Launcher, and the Rockstar websites, as well as the core Social Club player, accounts ecosystem, and related social and messaging channels.

  • We also align technology and tools with our digital distribution platform to create solutions that enhance our games and empower various teams within Rockstar; including development, marketing, security, and customer experience – to engage with our players.

  • The Engagement team provides tools and services that deliver tailored player experiences across Rockstar titles and messaging channels through data-driven segmentation and campaign orchestration.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a team of software engineers to build and maintain systems utilizing .NET, SQL and Cloud-based databases, and JavaScript (React).

  • Define objectives and key results for the Engagement team, devise plans to meet the objectives, and communicate those via roadmaps to technical leadership.

  • Collaborate with Product Management and Production team members to define scope and requirements, and schedule future team projects.

  • Collaborate with teams from other disciplines to integrate systems into the wider architecture.

  • Demonstrate expert technical knowledge that can be used to guide and mentor the Engagement team to solve complex problems.

  • Conduct performance reviews for Engagement team engineering members, including regular check-ins to assess progress and re-align where necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional web development experience.

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience engineering complex automated data-driven processes, with an emphasis on accuracy and performance.

  • Minimum of 2 years leading an engineering team.

  • A degree in computer science or equivalent.

  • Excellent communication skills as a core member of an internationally-based team, with a proven ability to develop and maintain good relations and communicate with team members at all levels.

  • A strong sense of ownership, with a proactive nature, and a drive to accomplish objectives and drive a team to success.

  • Passion for web and automation technologies and a desire to remain up to date with the latest technologies.

SKILLS

  • Previous leadership and managerial experience.

  • Expert in .NET and SQL for building highly performant large-scale automated processes.

  • Expert in modern JavaScript/ECMAScript with experience in React.

  • Experience with shared code and use of source control platforms.

  • Knowledge of Agile software development processes.

PLUSES

  • Experience with TypeScript.

  • Experience working with UX designers to build quality UIs that enhance workflows.

  • Appreciation of accessibility best practices.

  • Knowledge of big data ecosystems, i.e. Kafka and Hadoop.

  • Knowledge of Rockstar’s game titles and a passion for playing video games.

The pay range for this position in New York City at the start of employment is expected to be between the range below* per year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

*NYC Pay Range

$139,100—$194,700 USD
