Puny Astronaut is looking for an experienced Game Designer to join our team in Dundee!

This is an exciting opportunity for a Game Designer specialising in feature and mechanic design to join our award winning indie studio and have a significant influence on our debut title, Skye, and all other projects you work on.

The ideal candidate will have experience designing fun puzzle-based mechanics from prototype through to production using their exceptional knowledge of game theory and design principles. Knowing when to iterate a design and when to move on is critical to supporting our rapid development cycles and the success of our game.

Requirements

  • At least one complete development cycle as a Game Designer on a console or PC title within a professional studio environment
  • Exceptional understanding of game theory and design principles
  • Wide knowledge base of past and present games, across all genres
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4, particularly with blueprints and level block outs
  • Ability to communicate your ideas clearly, concisely, and efficiently in English, both written and verbal

Responsibilities

  • Design fun, innovative gameplay experiences that immerse the player
  • Take ownership of a feature’s design from start to finish, acting as a partner in the team’s creative vision
  • Validate the design by rapidly prototyping mechanics with the team
  • Iterate on the prototype in search of a high-quality user experience
  • Contribute toward the project’s knowledge base and improve the tools and workflow
