Manager Hardware Engineering

Sony PlayStation’s R&D team provides many of the technologies that provide new ways for gamers to experience extraordinary interactive content. This team provides technology contributions found in products like the Pulse 3D Wireless Headset to platform level products like the DualSense controller and PlayStationVR®.

We seek an experienced Manager of Hardware Engineering to lead our team in discovering and developing concepts, to prototypes and technology product production. Here, you will be central to our global efforts in creating and producing new peripherals and interactive concepts for PlayStation. Your team’s work will develop early concepts and provide new ways of user interaction for the high-volume production of state-of-the-art peripherals globally. If this is you, please apply!

Responsibilities:

  • Leading, coaching and mentoring a team of engineers with exposure to EE, ME, firmware, software integration to architect, prototype, productize and build new peripherals and core hardware technologies.
  • Lead partnerships both locally and internationally to develop hardware-based products and associated software.
  • Exercise sound judgement to manage activities of engineering team while socializing these plans to ensure timely and quality deliveries.
  • Provide hands-on technical management, mentorship, and support including system/design/code review, and ultimately be responsible for the quality of the systems your team builds.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring decisions, on-boarding, and mentoring of new engineers to make them productive members of the team.
  • Develop a team culture that reinforces the core values of SIE and PlayStation.

Requirements:

  • Possess a min. of 5 years hardware engineering experience in consumer electronics and technology teams
  • Provided direct leadership of a matrixed organization of technical personnel
  • Experience with EE, ME, Firmware and software integration of consumer electronics.
  • Solid understanding of embedded software development, device architecture and /or factory test requirements.
  • Built successful relationships with partners and collaborating teams.
  • Lead team(s) to provide technical improvements to products.
  • Proven record of leading sophisticated hardware product schedules and engineering builds down to the smallest detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to provide sound technical and interpersonal judgment, organizational and problem-solving.

Nice to Have:

  • Technical Program Management within a larger company to productize new technologies.
  • Experience with audio devices and AR/VR products.
  • Proactive and self-motivated; demonstrate critical thinking with an attention to detail
  • Understand high-volume manufacturing processes for consumer electronics.
  • Understanding of technical business decisions, including legal issues within the technology space.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.
