Tennis Writer & Social Media Director for a newly formed holding company that will own the sports and entertainment assets of Washington, DC based entrepreneur Mark Ein including the Citi Open, a combined WTA International and ATP 500 professional tennis tournament, the Washington Justice, the newly launched Washington, DC expansion team in the Overwatch Esports League, and the Washington Kastles, the most successful franchise in the history of World TeamTennis.

This position is responsible for crafting the organization’s message to the fans and media for the Citi Open and the Washington Kastles. This includes writing all of the Kastles' match previews and recaps, the daily previews and recaps for the Citi Open, marketing eblasts, press releases, website and social media content and more. In addition, this position will manage social media accounts for both the Citi Open and the Kastles, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This position will also provide support to other departments outside of the tennis seasons, including marketing, sponsorship and sales.

Required Experience

This position is 75% writing; therefore, the candidate must have significant experience (ideally 5 years or more) writing substantive articles about tennis teams, tours, tournaments or other tennis events for professional or collegiate organizations and provide writing samples to that effect. Candidate must have a proven track record of self-motivation and working independently and the ability to meet deadlines. In addition, the candidate should have a demonstrated level of success and experience with the major social media sites and fan interaction through these platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Write and edit all communications, including press releases (sometimes in collaboration with the external PR Agency), website content, social media content, public address announcements, letters to ticket holders, sponsors and VIPs, and marketing communications.
  • Maintain the websites and social networking sites and create and post of original content, including photos, video and more.
  • Prepare and send out regular email blasts throughout the year. These will Include daily updates and recaps during the season, which are often highly detailed and significantly longer than standard sports recaps.
  • Provide regular reports on website traffic, social media reach and results of email blasts.
  • Attend local events and represent the organization in the Community as part of the team’s grassroots marketing efforts.
  • Assist marketing department with various tasks throughout the offseason including managing inventory and fulfilling merchandise orders.
  • Assist sponsorship department with creation of presentations and other sponsor material.
  • Assist the ticketing and sales department with communications/marketing materials around ticket renewals and new sales campaigns, including crafting team’s renewal letters and e-blasts.
  • Assist with or lead a variety of tasks in the offseason that may fall well outside the general duties of this position, and otherwise contributing to the success of an organization that maintains a small offseason staff.
  • Potentially assist the Washington Justice Esports team during its season when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Owner and Senior Management of ONE Sports & Entertainment, the Citi Open and the Washington Kastles.

The full-time position will begin immediately, dependent on the candidate’s availability. Significant weekend and evening hours will also be required from time to time, especially during Kastles season and the weeks leading up to and during the Citi Open. Compensation will be commensurate with professional experience.
